Oh, come on---all the other Dr. Whos have had the role handed down to them for 50 years now, and the show's still incredibly popular---if this was just a gimmick, they would have already done it by now, don't you think? She's gotten the role handed down to her like all of the other incarnations of Dr. Who have had throughout. Tired of folks whining, "Dr. Who shouldn't be a woman," with no real good reason at all why the character shouldn't be. Turns out the new Dr. Who showrunner has always been a big Dr. Who fan, and had no problem bringing in a actress to do the role: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/399b321f-63cb-4b83-8bd3-e6874d09579f And "cutting down one sex to appease the other"? Where did that come from? Basically, the new Dr. Who showrunner probably grew up with seeing strong women in leads in movies and TV shows, which explains why he had no problem seeing the new Dr. Who as a woman. This is 21st century---this shouldn't even be an issue in the first place. It just shows how hard it is for people to let go of gender stereotypes, that's all. Diversity has already created new characters in TV for women, created by women writers and producers (in American TV anyway) like anything Shonda Rimes has done, Zooey Deschanel's New Girl, and Mindy Kaling's The Mindy Project. Excuse me? I'm black and I've been to theaters with mostly black folks who are quiet so that they can see the damn movie they paid to see like anyone, thank you very much. I don't like any idiots talking over the movie, either. And JordanPLL, you have no business assuming things about people you don't even know, so STFU. As if you never heard white folks talking over a movie on their phones----please. Cut the bull****. And, for your info, deliciousfeet, white/Hispanic/Middle Eastern people live in urban areas too---and watch movies with black people, too. Also, the OP didn't even mention race---white folks act up in theatres, too. Exactly! Horror has many different facets, too. That's what I liked about the film---it's more psychological horror than anything else, but it does have its genuinely creepy moments, and frankly, it was nice to see a horror film that didn't use over-the-top amounts of gore to supposedly scare you with--or in that case, very little gore at all. Now that's what I call a real horror movie---not all this overly gory-a** BS they have today. What I thought was stupid was that she left her door unlocked when she went outside---you don't ever do that, whether you live in an apartment or a house. That's just plain common sense. Dosen't matter if the garbage bin's right outside the door---you don't ever do that, in this day and age. Well, the actress was also the producer of this film, and she's European (Scottish) so obviously she had no issues with doing the nude scenes, because European actors and actresses tend to be more relaxed about onscreen nudity than we Americans are, lol. horrorgasm: I know---that didn't really make any damn sense to me, either----her winding up in the basement in the first place---why even waste time bringing her there if he was just going to do what he was going to do,anyway? Now that was just plain ridiculous right there. (The lead actress is Scottish, btw.) The film is actually pretty good and suspenseful up until the ending---which, frankly looked like it was just tacked on, and was just plain stupid because it really didn't seem to have any connection with what had gone on before. It would have been fine the way it was if it had just ended when you thought it ended, period. spookyrat1: Scopewatcher's right-----you younger viewers (well, some of y'all, anyway) don't appreciate old films because you're used to seeing everything you want to see in them nowadays. And because you're used to everything being loud and rapid-fire fast. I liked this flick, plus it was nice and creepy all on its own, without the usual supernatural overtones of Lewton's other films (which I also like.) To say you no longer take someone's arguments seriously because you don't understand where they're coming from is ridiculous. I liked this too. Always wanted to see it since it was kept out of the public eye for so long due to legal issues, and was barely ever released. pj: Why the hell are you going on and on about Clinton? She's not president, but she was still more qualified than the idiot clown fool we have there now. Funny how you haven't mentioned the fact that trumpf is even less qualified than her, which is why he can't get anything done, because he dosen't know what to do,anyway. People who go on and on about Clinton are usually just trying to deflect from the fact that trumpf's far worse than she is---hell, he isn't even qualified to be dogcatcher and you know it, yet you haven't said jack about him---wonder why? legnadiborm: You're an idiot, and stupid-a** troll on top of that. Go shove your head back in the dirt by your trailer park home, fool. LetThemEatCake: He did his job as president,a hell of a lot more so that the ignorant idiot clown fool with the fake hair and the big, loud stupid-a** mouth is doing now. So your stupid assertion that all he did was take selfies is ridiculous. What has trumpf done that you can actually point to, and say that it was something he's actually gotten done in the none months he's been in office, other than talk a bunch of BS and go around pissing people off with insults (which is all he ever seems to do anyway) The reality is, gay folks have been kicking it with each other since Biblical times---that's nothing new---civil unions, or no civil unions. Like I said, look up what Obama actually got accomplished, despite the fact that the republicans were determined not to let him get one damn thing done, no matter how much it could help their constituents. They're still around touring and I think they also put out a new release, so yeah, they're still relevant to anybody still into them, that is. Threadkiller: Oh, yeah---I forgot about those, duh. croft_alice: Sorry---I mean to reply to the OP. That is so not true, but, hey, that's your opinion. Theron is one of the better actresses out there today, and Atomic Blonde was a pretty damn good spy action thriller---not your typical Hollywood BS at all. But obviously you haven't seen it, so never mind. Drmccormack: Hell,yeah----the stairway scene was literally worth sitting through the entire film for (not that the whole film isn't good---it really is,especially if you like espionage thrillers done old-school style) but that's how a real martial arts fighting scene should be done, and it was so realistic. Reminded me of the way it's still done in Hong Kong films nowadays. I loved it. Also, you should see the sequel to John Wick if you get a chance--it's even better than the first one, which is saying a lot because the first one was bad-a** as hell (with an emotional opening scene) it's crazier, with more inventive gunplay, beautiful European locations, and more crazy, eccentric, bad-a** villains going after John Wick's head, lol. Not in Europe, it wouldn't----they have no qualms about making films like that. It would flop and become a cult item in the U.S.,though,lol. Hey, I kind of liked her----she was always cracking jokes and looking out for Manfred while giving him advice. And she was kind of funny, too. When you're a psychic who can channel ghosts and evil demons, you need all the advice from the ghost of a crazy dead Southern relative you can get, lol!
