Here's my issue with diversity right now.

It isn't diversity/equality itself I have a problem with.It's the entertainment industrys demeaning lazy approach to it.which is to condescendingly give women hand me down male roles.I feel like the message that sends to young girls is sure you can play strong leads.but only after men cultivate them and make them popular first.

Diversity should be about creating more strong original content for all genders equally.Not cutting down 1 sex just to appease the other.What the industrys doing right now has nothing to do with equality.Thier playing off a cheap gimmick for attention.Hey,it's the ghostbusters.But their women now.aren't we cool.

Interesting take. I'd love to come up with a list of amazing female original lead characters, but I really can't. Oh, maybe Buffy. Have to think about this for a while.

Oh, come on---all the other Dr. Whos have had the role handed down to them for 50 years now, and the show's still incredibly popular---if this was just a gimmick, they would have already done it by now, don't you think? She's gotten the role handed down to her like all of the other incarnations of Dr. Who have had throughout. Tired of folks whining, "Dr. Who shouldn't be a woman," with no real good reason at all why the character shouldn't be. Turns out the new Dr. Who showrunner has always been a big Dr. Who fan, and had no problem bringing in a actress to do the role:

And "cutting down one sex to appease the other"? Where did that come from? Basically, the new Dr. Who showrunner probably grew up with seeing strong women in leads in movies and TV shows, which explains why he had no problem seeing the new Dr. Who as a woman. This is 21st century---this shouldn't even be an issue in the first place. It just shows how hard it is for people to let go of gender stereotypes, that's all. Diversity has already created new characters in TV for women,created by women writers and producers (in American TV anyway) like anything Shonda Rimes has done, Zooey Deschanel's New Girl, and Mindy Kaling's The Mindy Project.
