I don't know, but the bottom line is that the film is getting some major positive buzz, which means there's clearly an audience ready and waiting to see it. That said, it would be cool if they had a theme night screening where everyone who came was encouraged to wear Black Panther masks or something like that, lol.
Notorious:
People already recall, know and acknowledge Blade---but let's be real, it's been over a decade since the last Blade film (which wasn't anywhere near as good as the first two---BLADE 2 is incredible, and even almost better than the first, IMHO--mainly because Guillermo del Toro directed it)----when's the last time you saw a major film featuring a black superhero? Can't think of one,can you? 'Nuff said right there. And Blade and Black Panther are two entirely differently characters----they're not automatically both the same simply because they're black. I'm sure people can make up their own minds about whether they like BLACK PANTHER or not----after they actually get a chance to see it.
Frogarama:
"When a "crappy" movie gets praise from critics, yet doesn't have any easy targets like "girl power" or "diversity" in it, does anyone start shouting "It only gets praise because of white privilege" or anything like that?"
Hell naw, they don't ever say that s***---you're right about that. The OP's ignorant (and frankly, stupid as hell) assumption (despite the fact that this person hasn't even seen the film yet) that critics won't be able to judge it on its own merits just speaks volumes about their own prejudice about the film (which they still haven't seen yet, mind you.) She/he acts like the film's just going to be given a pass simply because it's a film about a black superhero, not because the film could actually be any good (if the fact that it's been selling out more advanced tickets than any other superhero film and getting a lot of good buzz, isn't a clue, I don't know what the hell is.) And the OP's rant just basically proved your entire point, especially with that stupid uncalled-for crack about one of the Obamas.
Coleburg:
So what if you don't find Michelle Obama attractive (which she is)? Nobody gives a damn what you think about her, and frankly, I am sick of you stupid right-wing idiots constantly dragging the Obamas into a conversation which is not even about them. So why even bring them the hell up in the first place? And of course, critics can judge this film just like any other damn film they see on the regular. Why don't you just admit that you don't like the fact that a film about a black superhero exists (even though it isn't even out yet) and it's pretty arrogant and backwards of you to suggest that the film (which you haven't even seen yet, so your opinion of it dosen't even matter right now) can't be viewed on its merits like any other film. So you can take your opinions and shove them right back up your stupid racist a**, for I all care.
The thing is, the film's already getting major good buzz from pre-screenings, so that's a good sign that those expectations will be met---simply because, let's face it, it's something that's way different from the usual predictable norm of superhero films, and apparently, some fans have been looking for there to be a film about this character for years. Plus, it's coming out during Black History Month, so I gotta see it---I won't have any excuse not to, being black and all, lol.
Yeah, i just saw it, and liked it---I also liked how offbeat the cast (including the lead) look---more like regular people, which was refreshing. The show is definitely going to be crazy---I knew was probably going to like it when I saw the trailer, and I sure did, lol. Looking forward to see how the crazy teacher and the method to his madness play out, lol.
bjensen:
Yeah, over 40 years ago when they were much younger, so what's your point? Most of the comic superheroes were created by white guys until recently---we already know--old news.
Progressive means to change---there's nothing "crap' about anything changing---it's just not the kind of change YOU like. Too bad---get used to it, it's gonna happen, lol.
Oh, so you think superheroes should only be the same old white boring ones we're had up to now? Whatever--keep on being racist because you can't accept a black superhero (yawn.)
"Ebonics" is just another name for African-American slang, some of which even white people speak in everyday life, like, "Here's a shout-out", "Come at me", and a few other terms. Nothing weird or strange about it you can't understand.
Oh,really? Says here that's it's selling more advanced tickets then any other superhero film to date, it's got positive word of mouth, and it's expected to really break big box office wise, because it's something unique and different. I will be there to see it myself on opening day if I can.

Of course, you haters don't want to give it a chance because it's about a black superhero, but the hell with all of y'all---it's gonna break big.
Snags;
Whoa, hold up. trumpf's the one holding the dreamers hostage to get his too-damn expensive wall which we'll all wind up paying for to the tune of 25 billion dollars. Yep, we, the American people, will be footing the bill for it---not that he cares.
Yeah, Ryan is nothing but a brown-nosing, a**-kissing fake-as-hell poser who will bend over backwards for anyone that will get him ahead in his career. I swear, nothing about him is real whatsoever. He's like a robot--no feeling, no emotion at all---I can't stand him--he says all the right things, but just enough to get him where he wants to be. That's all.
Actually,no---trumpf didn't win many states in a landslide outside of the south---he actually just barely trailed in some states. And, no, he had a rep as not being that good of a campaigner, and never listening to his staff. He only got big due to the fact that he got so much more media airtime than anyone else, not because he actually had something to offer. And the places he won in don't represent all of America---they'e only 30% of the pop, so they can't represent anyone but themselves.
There's one episode of "Police Squad" on youtube, and it's available on DVD, for anyone interested.
The term "politcial correctness" had actually been around since the '60s, but it meant something copletely different until right-wingers hijacked in the early '90s (1992,to be exact) to dismiss anything that dealt with the concerns of women and people of color bringing attention to issues like racism and sexism, and how it affects them in ways that it never affects white men,
Yeah, he was----like I said he usually makes anything he's in worth watching. If you're seen him in the movie MOON, where he plays a double role, and pretty much carries the entire film with his unconventional self----basically if an actor can pull off a double role and be convincing as hell at both (like Tom Hardy in LEGEND, for example) they're a damn good actor or actress, period. That's genius acting right there.
e3e34ifj:
First of all, the term "African-American" was coined BY black people themselves as a name we could call ourselves that wasn't a negative term slapped on us by white people or anybody else. (Seems like something you should have already known, since you claim you're black.) I wish people would look up the brief history of the term before making such ignorant statements like the one you just made about it---and you're not the first one to say that in complete ignorance the term. You can call yourself whatever you want, but don't dismiss the term simply because you don't like or understand it. For too long, that's been the case. I grew up with the term myself (it was coined in the mid-'80s) and never had a problem with it, plus there isn't a damn thing wrong with it. It's no different from white folks calling themselves Irish-American or Iraqi-American or whatever else they ID themselves as. If you're black, you're of African descent,no matter where the hell else in the world you're from---ain't a damn thing wrong with that, that's a reality. How the hell are you not African if that's where your ancestors came from? Out history as black people didn't start with America, you know. I don't even know why the hell you or any other black person would have a problem with that. The reality is,is that the majority of people in this country came from somewhere else---including us (we're literally the only group that was forced to come here, though.)
"No self respecting black man would ever want to go by anything other than black." Excuse me? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Nobody died and made you the ultimate authority on what black people should and should not call themselves. Black people aren't all the same and we all don't think the same damn way or agree on everything, so get over yourself and your little arrogance, please. You don't call the shots on how anybody should identify themselves, period.
OP"
You haven't even seen the movie yet, and you're basing your entire opinion of it on some trailers you saw? Seriously? You do know the film has a black director and I believe, a black screenwriter? And black designers did the costume as well? I wish people would actually do their research on the film before spouting off about what you think it's going to be? Plus the film is aimed at a black audience, so of course it's gonna include rap, basketball, and other thing black folks are known to be into. My point is, wait until the film comes OUT and actually SEE it before making all these snap judgements. As a black moviegoer myself, I can't wait to see the film when it comes out. A movie dealing with a black superhero is long overdue anyway,as far as I'm concerned.
He dosen't know. Anyway, there is nothing wrong the show being pro-black. I still haven't seem it myself, but I'd love to. Tired of people expecting one show about black people to represent ALL black people---that's unrealistic and stupid. It's just ONE show, period.
