Bourbon King:
"Empty suit"? Obama started a national health care plan (which hadn't been done in decades) made gay marriage nationally legal for the first time ever, and deported more illegal immigrants than an other president before him. But, nope, you Obama haters don't want to give him credit for a single damn thing he's done (which would take all of 60 seconds to look up, but you're too lazy to even do that.) And his ascendence wasn't a "ploy" by anyone---it was the fact that folks were getting tired of the Clintons, and that John McCain clearly wasn't going to be a good candidate (especially since he didn't have a single clue about what to do about the economic collapse that year---remember, this is the guy who claimed that he didn't know anything about the economy.) I mean, you're not even giving credit to the voters who recognized him as not only a fresh face, but someone who clearly made the typical election a hell of a lot more interesting, and had a lot to bring to the table. Basically, your opinions about Obama are just that---your opinions, which means nothing to anybody else. Plus, they're stupid, and ill-informed. The Tea Party started (and was funded by the Koch brothers, so they were never a real "grassroots" movement like they claimed) because a lot of racist a-holes couldn't stand the fact that a black man was elected president. It basically fckd up all their ideals or white supremacy and ground them into dust, which was fun as hell to watch, lol. That's why they were really pissed off, and pretty much very few of them who ran for office in 2012 got elected.
And the republicans were so damn mad that a black man got into office, that they spent most of his two terms fighting against and trying to undermine almost every damn thing he did. Remember,it was that weasel Mitch McDonnell who said they were going to make sure that Obama was a one-term president. And the republicans lost the election in 2008 because of the Iraq war/economic collaspe.
Snagwolf:
Honestly, you sound stupid as hell. It was racists and mainly white folks that made a big damn deal over Obama being black because they couldn't stand or accept the fact that a black man was going to run this country. Obama himself never made that much of a big deal about race, and he only spoke on racial issues when something happened that pushed him into acknowledging the issue, like Ferguson and the police shooting. Otherwise, your ignorant and just plain stupid rants don't make any sense. Bush was thought to be an ignorant and stupid idiot who got the country into a war that had no real justified basis, and Obama helped restore faith in the U.S. from other countries about the world---especially from those who couldn't stand Bush. And enough of that ignorant,close-minded "liberals hating America" BS. Believe me, us liberals love America more than idiots like you who were stupid enough to think that trumpf (who dosen't represent anything America stands for) could be a decent president---he never will be because he's too selfish and arrogant to want to be. It's all about him and what he can get out of it. He cares nothing about the basic core values of our country and what made us the way we are. Obama cared way more about our country, its principles, and what it stands for, and he cared a hell of a lot more for his fellow Americans' well-being than trumpf ever has in his entire spoiled-as-hell rich playboy life.
Robbie is lovely and has a unique look ( liked her in FOCUS,where she played a really good and interesting role---not just the "pretty girl" one) but like you said, she needs to eat a little more. Not her fault---Hollywood still has this screwed-up notion that women are only attractive if they're thin as a damn twig and 90 pounds sopping wet---so I'm sure they already banged that into her head, sadly enough, like they do every actress in the business.
Actually, I saw the real Harding on TV at the premiere of the film with Robbie a few days ago, and except for a little more weight, she actually dosen't look that much different---and she was hardly what anyone would call "unrecognizable". I remember when that incident happened in downtown Detroit (at the now-closed Joe Louis Arena, I believe) and frankly, I've never believed her when she claimed that she didn't know anything about the attack on Nancy Kerrigan, even back then--for the simple reason that she had the most to gain from it. She pretty much killed her own skating career with that BS, so she's got no one but herself to blame. It's sad though, that she and her mother still don't talk, but that's between them.
Robbie has her own production company and helped to get this film made. This is the second actress you're accused of being a "whore"-----apparently you got some serious screwed-up deep-seated issues of your own with women, and just want to take them out on any famous actress----funny how you don't do this at all with any male actors. You need to get your own stuff together before whining about what the hell somebody else does.
Hey, I love shawarmas---you can find them everywhere in the Detroit metro area, lol! They're nice, thick, juicy and nutritious on top of that, lol!
Also, the OP sounds like she/he's just a hater and jealous of Hayek----who the hell cares? She's clearly a smart businesswoman who has also become a producer and created vehicles for other Latinos----such as her popular reboot of the Mexican show UGLY BETTY, and the recent comedy NOT A LATIN LOVER ) I think that's what it was called, lol.) And she's made it clear that she's a proud Latina, too. And she was famous long before she met her husband, so to claim she needed to get with an "old french man to be recognized" smacks of complete ignorance about her entire career, and it sound just plain stupid and petty, too. And she is a good actress, too, so quit drinking the haterade, please.
LetThemEatCake;
Salma is a good actress, and she happens to be one of my favorite actresses,btw----looks alone don't keep an acting career afloat, because looks come and looks go. Obviously you're never seen any of her films, so you're really in no position to judge anything she's been in. And your comments toward her are just ignorant and stupid----so I guess according to your backwards rationale, all these actresses who claim Weinstein harassed them and stopped their careers are all "whores" because some of them put up with his bull****? Just STFU, please----you sound ridiculous as hell.
Letthemeatcake:
You are so ignorant. She refused to sleep with the guy, but yet you still call her a "whore"? She ended up putting up with the guy because at that time he still had the power to decide whether her film was going to get made or not, and this was the first time, I think, she had produced a film on her own. Yeah, she had to make other compromises to get her movie made, but that sure as didn't make her a "whore". Obviously you don't even know the meaning of the word, or you wouldn't be so flippant with how you used it. And there are men in the industry that have reported having issues with him too, but I don't see you calling them "whores", so your comment about her was not only stupid as hell, but just plain sexist as hell, too. Plus she had a career before she met him and still has one due to her own efforts, and has had her own production company for years---he didn't make or break her career to begin with.
There's an upcoming Lifetime film about Blanco coming up soon starring Catherine Zeta Jones---forgot what it's called.
Who cares? I just started watching this, and have gotten hooked on it so far---it's pretty exciting. And the lead actress barely even looks over 30, let alone 40, so who cares about her age? She pulls off the role excellently---that's all that matters.
She had a full career of her own before she met either one of these dudes, so that definitely wasn't it. Also, how would being with a real life drug lord advance anybody's acting career? That makes no sense.
I've been seeing the trailers for it a lot lately, and Rebel Wilson has already been on at least 2 talk shows this week hyping the film---so yeah, it's definitely being pushed. Especially since the last one was such a huge box office hit, apparently.
She directed the sequel, which was still an incredibly huge box office hit, so obviously it couldn't have been that lacking in humor (I haven't seen any of the Pitch flicks, to be fair.)
Junky:
Why? Because stupid little donnie boy dosen't like her, and has talked s*** about her for years, like he does about anyone that dosen't just bow down and kiss his rotten, wrinkled a** 24-7? Get over that. What makes her so horrible? She's human, with issues, just like anybody else. If she was more conventionally attractive you wouldn't even be talking about her like that.
Kane:
Sounds like the type of show I'd watch, mainly because I like movies/TV shows written, produced and directed by women---because they depict women more realistically, and as actual, fill-fledged people with issues as as opposed to the stereotypical "hot chick",sex symbol, or femme fatale roles, or the female character who's just there to assure the audience that the main male character is straight, lol. Plus, I'm a woman, and find them more interesting and relatable than the usual Hollywood regurgitation of female stereotypes. Don't have cable, but would like to check it out as soon as it gets on DVD.
Yeah, very underrated actor----he was funny in this flick and basically had the best (and funniest) lines. Kinda liked him ever since I saw him in the first GiNGER SNAPS years ago, then I finally got to see MY LITTLE EYE in which he plays the antagonist--sort of,that is. He also played in a show I liked called JOAN OF ARCADIA, as one of the many manifestations of the Lord, and all that. He also still looks good, btw. But,yeah, he helped make this flick worth watching, definitely. Seems like all I've seen him in is horror flicks, but at least they're all been good ones.
Exactly--this film is actually funny and scary, and pretty entertaining (as well as a little creepy.) I like the fact that there's a nice build-up and that it wasn't a complete gorefest for most of them film---until the end, it basically scares the viewers old-school style, which I appreciated. It also has characters who, except for the producer, were really likable---another thing I liked about it.
It's no longer online.
From what I've read about the film---still haven't seen it yet, but definitely will after this---it was pretty controversial in its day for having the nerve to depict a church pastor as a predator (nowadays, that's pretty much the norm in films, as it is/was in real life) and Micheaux himself (not for the first time) had to deal with being hassled by the censors for it. Even Paul Robson (who made his film debut in this) disowned it----which makes you wonder why he took the role in the first place. There's a chapter about in the book WRITING HIS WAY THROUGH HISTORY by Pearl Bowser, which is about Micheaux and his work.
For anyone that's interested, BODY AND SOUL is also available on a DVD set titled PIONEERS OF AFRO-AMERICAN CINEMA, along with several other Micheaux films. The whole set is also currently streaming on Netflix to watch.
