Sight and sound 2012 lists only 1 musical in top 100. Singin’ in the rain. Next is Red Shoes at 117, if that can be considered a musical. Gigi is certainly a great film but doesn’t get much love among younger generations nowadays… 49th Parallel Gone with the Wind Scarlet Pimpernel Laura Ghist and Mrs. Muir Leave Her to Heaven I liked it! Far better than Falcon. Marvel does better when it sticks with fantasy elements. Boy, Falcon was bad by then end. I hope Loki continues to intrigue. Leaving Normal Ruby in Paradise The Haunting. A great Robert Wise film. 1 for Zemo, 1 for John Walker, 1 for the first action scene with Falcon. Everything else was junk, not even Star Wars Holiday Special quality. 3/10. I’ve seen many of the great Russian films, and this is definitely one of the great ones. Wonderful cinematography, a tremendous performance by the lead actress, and an emotional story, rather uncommon among the best Russian films. Frankly, since the filmmakers wanted to go that plain-look route, I would have prefered Shelley Duvall, who nailed it perfectly as the mousy, terrified, but ultimately triumphant heroine (The Shining). Sandman For an English language animated film, it is decent. Follows the Dianey formula, though, but without the music. The animation style was different in an interesting way, like Secret of Kells. If you want to try a differnt style, check out the more grounded films by Studio Ghibli, such as When Marnie was There, or From up on Poppy Hill. I thought those films were amazing, and in terms of story telling, put most Disney films and many Pixar films to shame. I heard it sucked, so I didn’t watch until today on HBO. Surprisingly, better than I thought. Better than Apocalypse, X3, Origins, New Mutants. I enjoyed it but it is a dark, sad film. Seems like a trend of many of the Xmen films. Yup! Love it. Fond memories from my childhood. Part One was so great! I could barely wait the week for part two, which was a slight letdown but still decent. My favorite Disney sci-fi film of all time. Leagues better than the Star Wars sequel trilogy. More epic and ambitious than Tron films. And the marvel films, well, they’re just CGI comedies with little sense of weight. Fun but fluff. Black Hole has many flaws but I can forgive them all! Second fav is Earthstar Voyager because I grew up watching it. :) Superb film. What a score! Tight editing, well paced. Amazing rotoscope animation. One of the best sword and sorcery films, live or animated. Better than Conan by far. It destroys Disney animated films made for ten times the budget. 10/10. Shin Godzilla. Best Godzillla film. Monsterverse films all childish in comparison (although they did have great monster fights that are 100% absent in Shin Godzilla). Absolutely! It has that dark, 70’s-era NYC grittiness and pessimism. Watch it for the great ambiance and visuals and great acting. The story is secondary. If you like French Connection or Heat or To Live and Die in LA, you’ll like this! That’s a great one, too. Best to watch the german language director’s cut version. Great suspense, but also bloody depressing. You might try to find “come and see.” It’s a Russian film about ww2. A little artsy and uneven at the start, but the second half is one of the most harrowing depiction of war atrocities on film. Yup. Own it on dvd. Bloody depressing but good ww2 film about the disaster at Stalingrad. I thought it was a very good character drama. I kept thinking “Woman in the Dunes” while watching this film. Anyways, I think everyone dies in Turin Horse. They’re going to purgatory or already there...
