how bad is this?

Great Disney horror move , phycological horror, none of that mindless 'gore' crap constanly turned out these days.
Thats not to say there isnt some horrific violence in it. More than one scene , i mean , that bit with Kate on that table - thats more scary than any slasher in a summer camp.

The best thing about it is 'the story'
The way the whole thing develops , the mystery unfolds , the past is revealed , the future plan is revealed .
Great story, great pacing.
Intriguing and charismatic villain.
I read the book as a kid many more times than i saw the film , so maybe that made it better.
Thee effects a bit ropey in one scene , but no biggie.

It is a Star Wars Rip off from top to bottom.

It is just a terrible movie that I love. I just re-watched it a week ago and it is a mess. The whole movie takes place over the course of a single day, hell not even a day. It takes place between breakfast and dinner. Except the movie has parts that the movie thinks take place over weeks. It is a bizarre mess of a movie.
