Nostalghia is free with subtitles on youtube. Just be aware that it is an extreme arthouse effort by Tarkovsky. But literally every frame is a work of art, it’s that beautful.... The Duellists (Ridley Scott) and especially Nostalghia (Tarkovsky) are even more stunning. I’d suggest The Witch, or The Witchfinder General. Both have disturbing endings. If this were real world, Wanda woukd be guilty of many crimes. Kidnapping. Child endangerment. Assault and battery. Etc. She’d be a fugitive, too. It’s fine. If people enjoy the MCU films, they’ll like John Carter just fine, as it follows a similar formula but feels more epic. I would have preferred something more faithful to the first book, but I like that the aliens look mich as described in the novels. Sword in the stone had a nice magic duel, but it was in 60’s. John Smith in The Dead Zone Submergence. Mesmerizing film but very abstract. This show is most compelling when it focuses on the big picture - the space race, astronaut training, the socio-political backdrop of an alternate history. It is less interesting when it lingers on small details like teen drama, homosexual relationships, drunk episodes, and marriage difficulties. Less soap opera, more big picture please. That’s the problem with most TV shows as the seasons progress. The actiors have contracts, so we get more and more backstory and details into private lives. Personal preference, really. Does the viewer prefer 2001 with its epic but impersonal scope or 2010 with its more humanistic story-telling? I stopped watching after about 4 minutes. Thanks to the awful bipolar kid. Not interested in some eye-rolling teen angst drama with dysfunctional Superman/father. Granted, maybe I didn’t give the show a chance, but life is short, CW has a terrible record with DC hero shows, and there are plenty of great vintage TV shows out there. I’ll watch the original The Prisoner, for instance! Free on tubi... He’s dead. It’s a sled. It’s made of people! It’s all just Bates. She’s the sister and daughter. Dietrich told the truth. Oh for pete sakes! Come ON, DC, another superhero please! Stop with the endless Super-people and Bat-persons. I’m dying for a Sandman movie that is faithful to the ambience of the comic. And.... it’s into straight superhero mode now. It’s a pity, but I understand that to appeal to the widest audiences, by the climax, things have to all be explained in broad terms , all questions answered. We see that in the Agatha-is-behind-it-all montage that pretty much beats the viewer on the head with it, plus the follow-up whole Wanda flashback episode that explains the rationale for the TV show format in the first place. Everything is very VERY spelled out. Little drama or suspense. Okay, it’s not Donnie Darko level of hero-weirdness and inventiveness, but still enjoyable popcorn fare. Hmm.... I’d like to see a film faithful to the original 1970’s comics, with the mythical stuff and weirdness. Of course, the original Spider-Woman was blonde... she just dyed her hair black as a disguise.... Into season 2 episode 6... wife is totally evil and insane. Husband and brother are blind enablers. All their actions are totally unrealistic. But, it’s a horror series, so we’ll have to just take it with a grain of salt. Even the 2600 version was pretty good, although I preferred Starmaster by Activision. I prefer Nosferatu, myself, although it may be rather slow for most folks. I wouldn’t call it a scary film, just an eerie one. Aguirre was a good film, too. I liked that descent into madness and the very downbeat ending. Man vs. nature, nature wins. Fitzcarraldo took about an hour to get into gear. Things were dull until the boat showed up. Man vs. nature, man wins! Then, man backstabbed by man, ha ha.... OHMSS is by far my favorite 007 film. It is so great, well-paced, well-edited, superb cast, great music and action. And it’s faithful to the movie, including that ending. Next is FRWL for me, and Dr. No then Thunderball. Goldfinger feels a bit boring to me. YOLT is decent, Diamonds was ridiculous. I generally ignore all the Bond films after Living Daylights. Most aren’t great and are just bloated. For me, Return to Oz is the best Oz film. It’s weird, a bit frightening, and captures the spirit of the books. Forget all the DREADFUL Oz movies since then. Wizard of Oz is a nice Vaudeville musical but Return ot Oz is the true Oz.
