Well, frankly I thought Parasite was going to be about some zombie virus apocalypse before I saw it. Honestly! I never bothered to read any summaries about it. Had to do a complete mental reset after I started to watch it. I thought it was decent and understand the acclaim... but I enjoy Downton Abbey a lot more. I’ll likely rewatch DA many times and enjoy it. We need more films like this and less superhero / CGI car films....
I think Parasite, with its class struggles in Korea, is a more complex and better film overall. That said, Downton Abbey is a great film too and my pick for 2nd best overall. And frankly, it’s a lot more fun and rewatchable than Parasite.
Want a downer? Watch Parasite.
Want a fun film and elegant and beautful film? Watch Downton.
Is it just me, or does it look like the wife aged about a decade since season one and gained about ten pounds?
It almost reminds me of a line in Army of Darkness by Ash: “Honey you got real ugly.”
Not at all. Won’t register with anyone who hasn’t had high school French.
I did read several of the short stories a bit ago. The premise if a gentleman burglar probably won’t interest many viewers. I would prefer to rewatch To Catch a Thief.
I love this film. One of my favorite comedies ever. Certainly one of the best slapsticks. I liked The Front Page, too, the early 30’s version of this same story.
Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell have great chemistry here!
Depends on the viewer. I am Buddhist. I love Bergman films, and they are very religious, so I had no issues with I Can Only Imagine. I love old Russian films and they are VERY “preachy” just not about religion. Two of my favorite films ever are Passion of joan of Arc (silent film, wow!) and Brother Son Sister Moon about Saint Francis of Assisi. Watch enough Asian films, and you’ll see a lot about reincarnation and karma.
So bottom line, it really depends on the viewer’s taste in films or open-mindedness to accept new experiences. We all have our limits (I personally draw the line at the horroid SJW output from Hollywood lately, so so terrible; scriptwriters need to board a time machine back to the 70’s to relearn how to write a Good script about challenging topics...).
I’d rather be a fan of Star Trek than of an STD...
Well, it is a musical, or at least a 70’s style variety show, and kind of fun in a spaced out sort of way, so I vote for holiday special.

Here. :)
Ah ha!!! I just saw the alternate ending on youtube for The Thing. I *knew* it! I wasn’t crazy, a “dog” did run away again in the end! :)
My thought at the time was that the Thing, having arrived in camp as a running dog, left camp while the end credits rolled, again as a dog. This was on TV (remember, 80’s movies tended to make a lot of changes from theatrical release, see Dune / Aliens / Wrath of Khan, etc). I was a little surprised when I bought the dvd and the ending was different than I remembered....
I like ST5! I’ve watched it more than all the TNG films plus the three Chris Pine films combined.
ST5 has heart and feels like a ST episode. If anything, the cheesy effects and sometimes awkward humor only enhance this perception for me.
Battleship is a blast! Great fun, plenty of action, some tactics as well, cool visuals. If you want a fun popcorn flick with an upbeat tone, this is it! Ignore the critics.
If you want doom and gloom like Schindler’s List or some black and white art film with Swedish subtitles, this is not for you.
I enjoy all movies. In the mindless thrill ride genre, Battleship gets my two thumbs way up.
I’m Vietnamese, watching an Italian dub of a Korean zombie film. I didn’t understand a single word, well except for “Hong Kong.” The story was dull, basically a heist buddy-buddy film set in a Mad Max Fury Road Zombie apocalypse. Even looking up the synopsis on Wiki, it didn’t make much sense.
Train to Busan was better, this is just average. I was reading a detective novel while watching, so I didn’t feel I wasted my time.
Watch Seoul Staion, it is a MUCH better fiom in the Train to Busan universe.
Free with ads on IMDB video, which you can also view on Amazon Prime (even without Prime membership).
Her size works to the advantage of the character she plays. A skinny petite woman wouldn’t be very convincing beating up the bad guys as she does on the show. She’s a warrior and looks like one.
I love Danny Rose. Also “Everyone Says I Love You” which is a great little musical comedy.
No, for me, it’s Dickens’ style, not the era. I’ve read dozens of 19th century novels, and just Dickens bothers me. Frankenstein was very readable for me.
Hey, you seem to enjoy WW2 films. What are your thoughts about Greyhound, the Tom Hanks detoryer vs. sub film? I liked it but I felt the Germans didn’t quite act in a rational manner.
As popcorn films, I enjoyed U571, Battleship, Pearl Harbor, Midway (both of them).
For more accurate films, I enjoyed Tora Tora Tora, Das Boot, battle of Britain.
I love Star Trek 5. Last of the good Star Trek films, for me, because it felt genuinely like a TOS episode, especially with the SFX and the relationship banter between the 3 key characters. I’ve watched it many times.
Of the films since, sT6 was okay, only the borg film of the TNG series was okay, and the last three sucked.
