Heartfelt film!

I don’t listen to much Christian music, except around Christmas. I have no idea who MercyMe are. I didn’t even know this film is based on a song, which I obviously never heard before. I decided to watch this film only because of Dennis Quaid, who was in another movie about music. That’s it.

That said, I really enjoyed this film. It is heartwarming, inspiring, and has really good singing, too. It’s a film about transformation and relationships (familial and religious) and has a splice-of-life quality missing in most Hollywood-type films nowadays. So, if you’re tired of the latest CGI-fest or superhero flick, try this one out. You might enjoy the change of pace!

You didn’t find it too preachy? I mean for Christians it’s not, and I know that’s the market group it was for but for non-Christians it was really heavy handed.

Depends on the viewer. I am Buddhist. I love Bergman films, and they are very religious, so I had no issues with I Can Only Imagine. I love old Russian films and they are VERY “preachy” just not about religion. Two of my favorite films ever are Passion of joan of Arc (silent film, wow!) and Brother Son Sister Moon about Saint Francis of Assisi. Watch enough Asian films, and you’ll see a lot about reincarnation and karma.

So bottom line, it really depends on the viewer’s taste in films or open-mindedness to accept new experiences. We all have our limits (I personally draw the line at the horroid SJW output from Hollywood lately, so so terrible; scriptwriters need to board a time machine back to the 70’s to relearn how to write a Good script about challenging topics...).
