Better than I expected
Considering the bad reviews and poor box-office performance, I found this movie better than I thought it would be. It had good special effects and action and decent story and characters.

Yeah, Disney had NO idea how to market the film. Which killed it.
shareI also don't understand the hate. This movie is very enjoyable. For some reason, it got a bad reputation and couldn't get rid of it. It all probably started with people complaining that it has too big budget and complaints that the younger audience is not familiar enough with the character of John Carter. (Dungbeatle said it better - they marketed the movie all wrong)
shareIt is like getting a diamond ring cleaned and finding out the stone is not real. It may still look good, but it it not as good as the original.
John Carter looks and plays fine, but it it not even close to the source material.
True. I liked it and even saw it twice (only paid for it once) in theaters.
It wasn't great, but it was good and better than a lot of more successful movies that have come out since. I feel bad for Taylor Kitsch since his performance was not bad but now his days as a leading man are over.
Not a bad movie, really. Very ambitious, with cool aliens and good action. I can see why it bombed (people didn't know what to make of it), but it didn't bomb because it was bad.
shareThe second half was too rushed. Too many things.
The first half, though, it was fun and very well done. Better than 99% or current pop-corn movies.
I genuinely enjoyed JC and have rewatched it a few times. It's a fun popcorn flick.
shareIt’s fine. If people enjoy the MCU films, they’ll like John Carter just fine, as it follows a similar formula but feels more epic. I would have preferred something more faithful to the first book, but I like that the aliens look mich as described in the novels.
