First Reactions to Godzilla vs. Kong Are Decidedly Mixed

The overall picture emerging is one of a fairly typical kaiju movie. It sounds like great monster fights get interspersed with silly human antics. While the occasional Godzilla movie, like Gareth Edwards’ 2014 version, aims for more, those are the exception rather than the rule. But raise your hand if you were planning on going for the human stuff.
Out of all the Monsterverse installments so far, KONG: SKULL ISLAND balanced it out the best. Awesome action and the cast was pretty good too. Maybe it's cuz a lot of them were chewing the scenery and having fun instead of trying to be more nuanced and boring.
shareShin Godzilla. Best Godzillla film. Monsterverse films all childish in comparison (although they did have great monster fights that are 100% absent in Shin Godzilla).
