Okay, don't watch it then.
That's one school of thought. It all depends on what you believe to be true about the theoretical physics of time travel.
It was made in 1960. Considering that the movie actually won an Academy Award for it's special effects (which where advanced for their time), I think they did a fine job. This was also the big era of monster movies in America, so the hulking, bluish-green Morlocks fit audience perceptions.
I love the movie and have it on DVD at home. It's a classic George Pal Sci-Fi/Fantasy movie that current film students should watch. It is also far superior to the remake done in 2002. That was just awful.
Hmmm.... I don't know, I want to give the story writers for Marvel more credit. Doing a time travel twist is okay as long as they don't replicate something already done in other movies.
Here's my guess. Marvel and Disney are likely going in a "youth must be served" direction for the next phase of MCU movies. I can understand it but I'm not thrilled about it. Cassie Lang does end up becoming a member of the Young Avengers in the comics, possessing the same abilities as her dad, Ant-Man.
I imagine that he's already done his cameo for Avengers 4. The Russo brothers filmed both of those movies back-to-back. He's also likely in Captain Marvel. Outside of those two movies, I can only guess.
Kaneda was a HORRIBLE ship's captain! His decisions (or rather, his lack of them) ended up costing the lives of everyone and nearly resulted in the mission's failure.
Think about it for a minute. He makes an ill-informed choice to turn over the decision to reroute Icarus 2. That single abdication of responsibility led to all the other catastrophic events. The only person who seem to have any common sense in that moment was Mace, who argued (correctly) that intercepting the Icarus 1 was not their mission but rather saving humanity. And what does freaking Kaneda do? He listens to the counsel of the most unstable person on the ship, the freaking ship psychologist and defers the decision to the ship's physicist. I liked the character of Capa but he should have never been placed in that predicament. Yet again, it all goes back to Kaneda for basically being a fool.
I've actually never seen this movie. When it sort of bombed at the box office, I thought it was likely not good but so many people that did see it have argued otherwise. Maybe it's time to check it out.
Fair thee well, Douglas Rain. Your voice shall be a part of American entertainment culture for generations to come and onward. Hal 2000 will always be woven into the fabric of Sci-Fi.
I concur. To see his visions jump from the pages to the screen in such fashion. How cool that was for him!
I don't know, I'm not getting that feeling. It all depends on how well that opening weekend is received and how the star ends up being received by the fans.
Thank you Stan for the wonderful worlds you created. I remember in my childhood, spending many a summer afternoon laying on the floor of my room, a stack of comic books piled next to me. Myself, my brothers and friends would spend hours like that; perusing Spider-man, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America and Fantastic Four issues, escaping into these colorful places and into characters you helped embed in our imaginations. It was a great time - as were these past decades as those same comics came alive on big screens. You leave a enduring legacy and you will be missed.
No way am I missing the 4th Avengers movie but I'm also excited about seeing Shazam in April. Should be two fun flicks!
A resounding YES!!!!!!
I liked it a lot, so much so that I purchased the DVD. The strengths of the movie definitely outweigh the few weaknesses.
When you watch the movie, you can see moments when they were going to make one of the crew members the main antagonist. I'm thinking the mission psychologist was likely the writer's first choice, as he was a strange character. Yet for whatever reason, they decided to make the antagonist the deranged captain of the first Icarus mission. A lot of critics didn't like this but I did. It added to the tension and sense of urgency as the story reached it's climax.
It's Danny Boyle's best, in my humble opinion. This and "28 Days Later" are his masterpieces. I prefer "Sunshine" though.
Yeah, I quit watching season 2 of Stranger Things for most of the reasons you mention.
Despite the over saturation of hype that NetFlix and the cast members put out there, the problem with the second season is that's it's more of the same, like they're trying to re-create the mystery and suspense of the first season.
It doesn't work.
Even when I was trying to focus on the story, it couldn't keep my interest.
I'd hoped they would go in a different direction, maybe go to another town and give us a whole new cast and plot to follow. Sadly, I guess the Duffer Brothers are a one trick pony. Stranger Things, Season 2 is nothing more than an attempt to replicate the original story from Season 1.
Nothing to see there really.
I love it and still enjoy watching it. With the exception of Katie Holmes playing a real bitch in Rachel Dawes (wasn't a likable character in the least), the rest of the characters were well written and acted, the story was engrossing and the action was superb. The chase scene where he's driving the Batmobile over roofs through Gotham is one of the best ever!
An excellent CBM for anyone - people who read comic books and those who are just casual movie viewers, looking for something fun to watch.
As for as suspension of belief, this is a CBM for goodness sake! People should watch it and enjoy it for what it is.
My understanding from the movie, was that the MCP program was a product of more than one user. The MCP even states so when he's scolding Sark about being afraid of putting a User in the games.
CONAN
I saw it at the local theater (called the JOY Theater) in my home town. I was a teenager when it came out. This is still John Carpenter's masterpiece. The visuals, the music that winds up tension, the sense of foreboding and the solid acting... everything about this movie, I liked!
I also have affection for The Fog and They Live, yet they don't come close to The Thing.
