Why are rich people hated?

I never understood this. Everyone always tries to make enough money for themselves and their family, even for future generations to not have to worry about. But when they become rich, people get so angry. If someone is a trust fund baby they are called privileged. If someone worked hard for their money and opened a trust fund for their kids, how is that a privilege? They earned that money. It's like people want you to work hard
to make just enough to get by, then once you reach a certain amount, you're considered privileged and a showoff.

This obviously doesn't include people who bend tax rules or launder money. This is about people who have worked hard for it and did it in a moral way.

reply

And how many tens of thousands of people bend tax rules or have them bent for them? How many people launder money while hiding their books and tax returns? At some point the average person is disgusted by the lengths rich people go to get richer. Sam Walton is rich. Do you think Wal-Mart is some well run organization doing the community good? No. They offer crap wages and crappy working conditions under the notion that people don't HAVE to work there, do they? So every retail store is forced to follow their market plan because all the impoverished citizens want is cheap foreign made goods regardless of what the overall effect on the community is. And since many people need to get whatever job is available, we have a market for Wal-Mart workers. Gee, what a wonderful world. We're all Horatio Alger at heart, right?

reply

What's your answer, Copernicus? You have none. The average person is disgusted by a lot of things, such as the MILLIONS of permanent welfare recipients who WON'T work. We don't like supporting them. We also don't like supporting the MILLIONS of people in this country illegally. If just those two problems alone were addressed, a LOT less taxes would need come out of the "average person's" paycheck.

reply

"Sam Walton is rich"

Sam Walton died 28 years ago.

reply

That's quite a few generalizations there. You're going straight for the big name companies, which aren't all involved in corruption or paying their employees crap all. I know people who are rich because they own a single restaurant and a bakery. People hate people like them because they started their own business and are successful.

reply

Generally if you're enjoying life, people will try to start problems with you. You can be considered poor, but if your enjoying your job, have a few good hobbies, or other things going for yourself, and making just enough to get by, people try to stamp that feeling of contentedness out of you. For instance I work a hospital trade job which gives me a modest income, but nothing to write home about. I do my work and chat with my colleagues happily, but usually people try to bring me down by making cutting remarks as if me working a trade job makes me beneath them. This has happened almost every single time I've had a smile on my face or feeling comfortable in general. So the point is, whether your rich or not, if you look happy, expect to be treated like trash by POS'. Main reason I just focus on my own life and don't associate with anyone other then my family and 2-3 good friends

reply

We're cut from the same cloth, my friend. :)

reply

People just don't like other people being happy. It's like they're always jealous.

reply

I'm happy seeing other people happy, but I get what you mean.

reply

i believe the majority of the worlds problems come from people having kids they cant afford or raise right. if the poor stopped breeding, poverty would go virtually extinct.

sure i kinda hate people with way mor money than me but i'd rather have them for neighbors

reply

But poor people shouldn't have to lose their bloodlines. Some countries are so poor that the entire country would go extinct.

reply

Given Western countries have become a Noah's Ark even if those nations went "extinct" there would still be plenty of their people in Europe, USA, Australia etc to make up for it.

reply

Yeah but when poor countries extinct, the not very rich countries would become the new poor. And then they would extinct. And the not very very rich countries would become the next poor countries.

Until only one remains standing; then the richest country in the world would also become the poorest at the same time.

reply

It's all relative though and a country is made by it's people, land mass itself does not have any magical properties. What I am saying is that depending on the country that is left standing it could be turned into a virtual utopia or a slum depending on the people living in it.

That is the elephant in the room in this discussion. When you look at poor/developing world/not so desirable countries, especially in Africa, what do you see? Europe wasn't always so great but the people over time stepped up and forced changes. Until the people in these other countries do the same nothing will change for them.

reply

Yes! Why didn't I think of that? Should we have them spayed and neutered? That would cost the rich people a lot of money. You could just kill all the poor people and nip it in the bud right now. Then we'd never have to deal with poor people and their irritating poor people problems again!
A few people in history had this approach but they always killed the wrong people. There was that weird guy that thought Jews were the problem. It turns out he was wrong and a lot of innocent people died. His reputation is forever ruined. There was that idea about getting Africans to work for free. Everyone benefited from free labor (except the Africans). That idea didn't really pan out and there's still backlash from that one. Killing off the savage natives worked well for the most part, but there are still a few natives that got away. Don't worry, most of them will be wiped out with the poor. We'll still celebrateThanksgiving, and what a feast that will be for our fat rich faces.
I wish YOU were my neighbor. FOUR!

reply

WE WANT THEIR MONEY !!!

reply

Don't we all?

reply

I only get bored with them when they try and make out they are like everyone else or cry about having to do quarantine in a mansion with all the luxuries and money in the bank that would make their "prison" seem more like a resort.

reply

Sure, but one could also argue that people who are not well off who have somewhere to live aren't homeless during this pandemic. Living in an average home or apartment can be viewed as great wealth to someone.

reply

It's all relative and I am not all for one side or the other. I don't have much sympathy for people who do drugs/alcohol etc and generally fuck up their lives and become homeless either.

I also appreciate that in a lot of cases it takes a lot of drive and risk to become wealthy, especially if you are not born into it.

My gripe is simple, don't act like your suffering when you have plenty just to try and fit in with your fans.

reply

In my experience, it's not the amount money people that's the issue, it's the lack of empathy for anyone who earns less.

Even relatively less well off people often view homeless people the same way millionaires would view people earning minimum wage.

I'd say the children of rich people are thd worst. They've not had to work for anything so don't have the perspective of any struggle involving food or rent or utilities. Not their fault i suppose. Just like I've no idea what being in a refuge camp is like.

reply

Yeah, it's not their fault, but they're often looked like they are a bunch of bratty kids. I mean, their family earned the money and they're entitled to it. Anybody would take that money if it was passed down from a family member.

reply

I can't speak for those who 'hate rich people' for ...reasons. I'd say though the silver spoon types who go out of their way laugh or mock people like "haha you're poor" or if putting down how they earn their living. Those kinds of rich people are hated.

reply

Those people are the definition of assholes.

reply

People hate assholes. A lot of rich people act like superior assholes. For further explanation observe the president of the United States.

reply

As you said, "a lot". It's usually automatic hate just because they're rich even though they may not be the type of person who makes you feel inferior.

reply

People that judge others solely based on the amount of money they have are assholes.

reply

I agree.
