Why are rich people hated?

I never understood this. Everyone always tries to make enough money for themselves and their family, even for future generations to not have to worry about. But when they become rich, people get so angry. If someone is a trust fund baby they are called privileged. If someone worked hard for their money and opened a trust fund for their kids, how is that a privilege? They earned that money. It's like people want you to work hard
to make just enough to get by, then once you reach a certain amount, you're considered privileged and a showoff.

This obviously doesn't include people who bend tax rules or launder money. This is about people who have worked hard for it and did it in a moral way.

I love your jokes samoanjoes but I just didn’t laugh at this one!

reply

I'll try better next time.

👏🏻

reply

Because I didn’t do anything with my life and they owe me money. Gates, Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg...fucking pay me. I want what I deserve!

reply

I think this is a common misconception. You can work your ass off, have 2 jobs, and still not make enough to cover rent. I've never known anyone that was poor from not working. My friends are poor and they all work a lot. Why do people with money always assume that poor folk want something from you? Living on the rougher side of town and working your ass off just to make ends meet comes with a lot of durability and self-pride. Nobody is asking any snotty rich twats for a damn thing. Most people just want to pay rent, and it's ridiculous they have to work multiple jobs to do that.

reply

Well being rich changes you, people are very quick to adapt on having better conditions and look down on others and take things for granted. I barely have enough money for basic needs to last me to the end of the month, seeing some rich prick in a yacht kind of seems unfair in comparison and makes me dislike him. I don't see what is so hard to understand, if you were in a hole barely trying to climb out and you see a guy at the top taking a rest in the sun you wouldn't resent that guy? Eh.

reply

I wouldn't resent it. The only way I would be upset is if someone was showing off their wealth. I don't hate people who live in mansions, but I do question if living in a house that big is necessary.

reply

Have you seen how many pairs of shoes my wife has?

reply

As long as she's not showing off, it's all good. Maybe not for your bank account though.

reply

It's almost always political.

One side of the political spectrum looks at rich people as inconsiderate.

And the other side considers poor people to be lazy and oftentimes worthless.

reply

And both are wrong. But nine times out of ten people will side with the group within which they reside. Divide and conquer. Keep us all squabbling so we don't notice what's really going on.

reply

100% this^

reply

There was something I saw recently where someone said if you're rich and you know two languages, then you're considered smart. But if you know two languages and you're poor, you look like some illegal immigrant.

reply

It's the change of character. Many people who are "privileged" or have money tend to be selfish and standoffish. They tend to mainly think only of themselves.

Obviously that doesn't apply to all rich folks, but it's definitely true for many of them.

reply

Exactly, "many". It's always good to not generalize.

There's only one person I utterly despise that I'm sure is rich, the Frankenmonkey Steven Tyler. He's probably rich with putrid body odor as well. I despise him because he's such an all around freak. He's a rotten singer and but ugly. He doesn't deserve respect and admiration. He's a farce!
