I thought I would hate it, but I found it to be fine. It's a stupid, cartoonish, comedic love story. I think, overall, you need to be in the right mood for this kind of film, but it is entertaining.
Sadly, this films humor has dated over the years. A lot of the bits I have seen discussed on these forums I have watched, and they got a minor chuckle from me. Nothing stood out as particularly funny though.
The film isn't bad, it's mildly entertaining.
Just finished watching the film and I agree completely. This is horribly boring garbage. Don't waste your time.
replies can debate over what happens when ... NARFLES THE GARTHOK!!!
I don't care about the director and actor's relationship. I stand with OP on this one. I feel the movie had its high points and its lows, but overall was nothing to get excited about. If nothing better is on, then I'll watch it; but overall, I am neutral to this film.
I agree with the above two posters; it's a dark comedy that tries to balance both. I think it succeeded.
I would watch either if they were on TV. I guess that means I don't have a preference. I have no idea why someone would walk out of Top Secret!
I have probably watched Top Secret! a little more than Airplane!
These are good points that I think I agree with.
Overall, I think the second was better as a standalone film.
I do not know if this makes a difference, but each person only had so many arrows on hand. If you just wildly start firing as soon as they get in range, you will be wasting most of your ammunition. Best to wait until they are at a point when you know you have the best chance at hitting them.
That being said, the etiquette argument made by leader is pretty good. That could actually be what was going on.
I remember Red Planet not doing well, but I never realized it was the straw that broke Kilmer's back.
Seriously though, it sounds like he was very difficult to work with. With the major blockbusters he had earlier in his career, maybe it's better he faded into the shadows. That's especially so if he wasn't willing to work with his fellow actors and directors.
RIP
Yes, this is worth a watch.
If you like James Gandolfini, then I think you will enjoy the film.
I saw it well after its release, so I already knew Arnold was going to be a good guy.
However, I always thought this was a huge surprise to its first time audience or at least shot to make it seem like a surprise. The mall scene initially makes it look like Arnold is the bad guy (when he points the shotgun at John).
I think the mall scene was intentionally shot to look as if it was two terminators against John, at least at the beginning of it.
whether the audience in 1991 knew that Arnold was a good guy or not, I cannot say.
Both are great movies.
Unlike LetoAtreides I think the second film has soul and heart similar to the first. After all, Willie learns to let go of the actual family he had and replace it with a new, more deserving one in the second film (the Kid and possibly Diane). In the first he accepts a new family as well (the Kid and Sue).
I think the main criticism for the second film is that it is too much like the first one. The Kid/Thurman is innocent, Diane was a good compliment to Willie (although I would have preferred we still had Sue in the second film), and Willie was trying to change and do something right. Even the heist went down similar to the first film.
The above being said, I like both films and might even slightly prefer the second one over the first. The second did not have the filler scenes with Bernie Mac which, I feel, were disgusting, pointless, and dragged down the quality of the first film terribly.
This is where I stand regarding the third film as well. I do not hate it; I just like the other films more than it. I even find myself going back to Alien Resurrection more frequently than Alien 3.
I agree with AmeriGirl26 on this one. I think Coneheads was the best of all SNL based movies. The Blues Brothers was also very good, but Coneheads just had me laughing more. The film had tons of SNL stars in it and the story, although extremely silly, had heart to it. Great film.
This is my opinion of the series for the most part. 1 and 2 are fun films but neither are a masterpiece. I like 2 a little more than 1 because Axel, Taggart and Rosewood had more screentime together.
HellFire is right, 3 was when the quality suffered.
I think both the first and second are excellent. The third one is when things started to go off the rails.
I agree with this, it's a decent sequel, but it doesn't top the first. I probably liked it a bit more than Melton seeing as I usually watch both movies around the holidays, but I agree the first is a better movie.
Thank you! A Merry Christmas to you too!!
