But I don't like saying those words because I liked/like Will Smith in I Robot. Can't think of other ones I've liked. But recently I've had to assist with domestic violence issues in community. I'm not a fan of preventable aggression. It's toxic and steals energy from the person getting hit. Will Smith grinned as he walked back to his seat, and his son said "that's how we do it". Then Smith refused to leave when asked to, like some kind of wannabe mob boss. They probably let him have the statue like giving a crying baby its dummy. It wasn't even an insulting joke, it was likening her to a tough movie character FFS! Why do you keep spamming this forum with new threads? Now you're just spraying hypotheticals. Pointless thread. He needs to do a lot more than make cookie-cut templated apologies. He should put aside his acting, and use this opportunity to raise awareness about anger management. Domestic violence is a huge problem around the world. It always begins with a slap. Kids need to learn that shouting the loudest isn't how you get things you want. Aggression is not how you resolve issues. Tantrums should never lead to an award. And when you're asked to leave but refuse because "you're Will Smith", you don't deserve statues or movie deals. Cancel Will Smith. Yep, the only comparison is as you mentioned - the same brainwashed audience applauding out of habitual ceremonial process and elitist peer pressure. They have as much to answer for as Will Smith. Like people who stand around watching a crime without helping or even condemning it. More people like Jim Carey should speak out, and people in general need to wake up and use their own moral compass rather than look to others for what to do in any given moment.
Let him keep the statue
Sure, and let Chris Rock be unslapped. Will Smith put his shoulder into that "slap", it had more force than your average slap. It was not a "cheeky slap", it was an aggressive whack to the side of the head, followed by verbal tantrum and disrespect of everyone there. King Will? Nah. Let him keep statue? Nah. After his crying acceptance speech with lame excuse that sounded like it came from the wife beater's top 10 excuses handbook for domestic abuse, he doesn't deserve to keep shit. > "and it instantly turns into Jerry Springer" No it didn't. You're forgetting that Chris Rock kept his cool and didn't lower himself to Will Smith's trashy level. ONE man misbehaved that night. Race has nothing to do with it. Diversity has nothing to do with it. Diversity means representation from a broad spectrum of the community, including hearing impaired, disabled, and many others who are not in spotlight very often. > "And how exactly is that worse..." Um, because one is physical violence, and the other is inappropriate applause. THAT'S exactly how it's worse. Got it? You're in the 1% of deluded fools who support Will Smith and condone violence in response to jokes > Missed opportunity by Jada to roll with it, confidently She actually said a week before Oscars that she loves her bald head, and doesn't care what people say. Link to the CNN article here: https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/29/entertainment/jada-pinkett-smith-bald-head/index.html Which means her frown-face reaction to Chris Rock's joke was more of a "poor me" sympathy grabbing moment. She forgot in that moment that she loves her own bald head, and she forgot that GI Jane is a bad ass female character. Chris Rock was not insulting her at all. It wasn't even a "roast". And why don't YOU get it? The joke was about her SHAVED HEAD which she is proud of. She stated that only one week ago. She is not ashamed of her shaved head. Chris Rock made no mention of her medical condition. Not having hair is just "not having hair", it's not like a missing leg, or disability or speech impediment. Many people CHOOSE to shave their head. Nobody chooses to have one leg, or a speech impediment. BIG difference. Except they are not uglier because they don't involve physical violence. Do you know the implications of millions of domestic violence perpetrators seeing Will Smith hit someone because of "words"? Then receive an award and standing ovation? Use your brain. It sends a message that whacking someone in the head is an okay response to a bad joke. That the "show must go on" because Chris Rock is a man and should take it, is disgusting. If it were a female comedian that Will Smith hit, the show would have cut to a break, and Will Smith arrested. The Will Smith slap is BY FAR the ugliest Oscars moment. Case closed. And btw, perhaps you've forgotten that cartoonists were murdered for drawing pictures that offended some people. Will Smith's violence against comedians is just a lower branch on the same tree. > "Rock’s GI Jane joke was really lame as well as insensitive." But it wasn't about her medical condition, it was about her shaved head. Jada Smith was quoted a week before the Oscars as saying she doesn't care what people think of her bald head, because "guess what, I love it". She said this, you can look that quote up. So when Rock made that joke, it was because she loves her bald head, and GI Jane is actually a strong, bad-ass character. So please tell me what exactly is so insensitive? George Costanza disagrees with you. > "Recasting of 2 major characters were major fails" Jeez, chill out. The actor who played Spartacus died in real life after 1st season, so not much can be done except get a new actor. Calling the new Spartacus a "dud" is unfair. By the final season he owns his role and does a great job. I agree with Volley, it's highly rewatchable, and starting with Gods of the Arena is the way to go. The dialog is fun, it's entertaining, and there hasn't been anything else that's come close since. lol 2 year old thread i dont even remember writing... its like a different person wrote it doesn't matter, lots of movies suck, join the club. not sure why I said dude should change careers, but my post is a micro blip heading for infinite darkness; an unaccounted ricegrain in the sink. Maybe you worked on the show, or related to one of the crew. That's the only reason I can think of why anyone would praise this utterly boring as fuck show. The lead character is simply boring... has no personality. He could get run over by a truck and why would I care? I'd laugh. Awful show, one of the most boring overrated steaming piles of crap ever. You are not in for a treat, you are in for absolutely nothing of any substance. Worthless pretentious no-talent garbage. Regardless of your interpretation, I still dislike the fiction on this point. Stoning is a particularly brutal method of murder, and I don't buy that all those guards and everyone else involved on the administrative side would design or condone such routine butchery into the culture. Remember that the timeline of these events is meant to be not too far from when the world was relatively normal. We're expected to believe that things could descend to this level in such a short time. For me, the Aunt Lydia character is too extreme. A psychopath somehow given position of power in the ironic quest for human life. We would presume her behaviour and methods are in line with the system in place... of which I find implausible. I'm still enjoying it for the most part, even with some reservations. In this politically correct movie business, there's no way "you've done a man's job" would get approved by the suits at the film studios sitting around their hardwood conference tables. They don't make movies like they used to. Yeh it's stupid. He got superman powers for that scene. That wall was not just a regular concrete wall, it looked about 2 feet thick, a solid stone wall with outer layer. You can see that in the later shot after explosion, he gets flung back to the hole in wall, and we see how thick that wall is. It makes no sense that he could just run through that, even with more strength. If he's that strong, the blast would not have damaged him at all, but he basically gets knocked out by the blast, seconds after running through a stone wall like its butter.
