If anything, the G.I. Jane comment was kinda a compliment...

Demi Moore looked hot, and bad-ASS in that marine cut. And, Jada has always prided herself as being a bit of a rebel badass, right down to singing in a heavy metal band.

What Rock said to her helped normalize her look....as if to say: “You’re not a victim of circumstance...your choice to shave down to a marine cut is a normal, sexy and badass look, just like Demi Moore in G.I. Jane.”

It didn’t seem mean-spirited to me. If it was said among friends over beers at a bar table, it would have been taken in the context it was meant. And I think Jada would have rolled with it. Heck, she has had a sense of humor about it (shaving her head) in interviews and on her podcast.

She looks great rockin the “G.I. Jane”, and so does Willow. If we can start to destigmatize that look (women who choose to shave their heads due to alopecia, chemo, military or sheer preference)...women won’t feel the need to hide or feel in any way self-conscious. If we can normalize it (like Chris Rock did), women could rock “the G.I. Jane” and feel strong, empowered and sexy...not embarrassed. Missed opportunity by Jada...to roll with it, confidently. To seize the power and be a roll model. A trailblazer.

And a missed opportunity by Will Smith....to not be an ass hole.

I agree 100% I don't see the insult. The real mistake Chris made was his comment missed the mark because it referenced a 25 year old movie that most people don't remember.

But it's kind of interesting, because you see women with shaved heads all the time now., while 25 years ago it was shocking to see

Will Smith is a criminal and thug and belongs booked and in jail.

If we can normalize it

She has already done that. She has had short hair many times throughout her life. No one even questioned if there was a medical condition, because it’s not really a dramatic difference from what she’s done in past. Despite this, she has always been considered beautiful.

We don’t need to change society so that she can feel better, she just needs to learn how to take a joke when it’s at her expense.

Yep! That boat has sailed!

A normal person would’ve laughed it off. Because what else can ya do.

You could be thankful you’re a zillionaire but the insecure narcissists of Hollyweird would never do that.

She actually said a week before Oscars that she loves her bald head, and doesn't care what people say. Link to the CNN article here:

Which means her frown-face reaction to Chris Rock's joke was more of a "poor me" sympathy grabbing moment. She forgot in that moment that she loves her own bald head, and she forgot that GI Jane is a bad ass female character. Chris Rock was not insulting her at all. It wasn't even a "roast".
