Chappie Vs Ex machina
I fail to understand why this has a 7.2 rating...If Ex-machina can get an 8 this was certainly a 9!

shareI really thought, I enjoyed this while watching and just few moments later it hit me, like just right in my gonads, Kidding :) On a serious note though, it's definitely enjoyable in parts, has noticeable flaws as well. It does stand well on rather filmsy premise ; it's a film after all, that's one of more redundant expression I've heard.
What I can't comprehend is you comparing this to "Ex Machina", I mean just whoa!!! that movie just blew me away, definitely better cinematography, script, acting and one of the most surprising, fascinating debut by director. It definitely doesn't take anything away from Chappie ; but it's rather unfair to compare those.I respect your view on this, but it's rather odd to see these two getting compared, they are portraying very different vibe, atmosphere overall.
People like you are so damn unintelligent, it's mind blowing. Take your Die Antwoord fetish and shove it where the Sun don't shine.
shareChappie 4/10 entire plot could be resolved if main character would've gone to the police after he was "kidnapped"
Ex Machina 8/10 thought provoking, intresting and much MUCH more intresting, overall abit slow in the pace.
I feel like a hypocrite because I enjoyed Chappie, but I hated it at the same time because of Die Antwoord because I know all about them. I feel like one of those moronic IMDB wannabe critics who always hates movies because of comparing a movie to all other movies. I tend to take pride in being able to suspend my beliefs in order to enjoy a movie, but Chappie took it a bit too far. I do enjoy Die Antwoord but to see them act in a movie AS Die Antwoord is just....weird.
Also, I don't think Ex Machina was slow at all. If anything, it was perfectly paced throughout the whole movie and turned out being a masterpiece in my mind. I could watch Chappie once and be done with it. I could watch Ex Machina many more times in my life and still enjoy it.

Uhm... It's called an opinion. Google it.
shareWhile it's possible that someone could enjoy Chappie more (likely adolescents), Ex-Machina is certainly the better film with better production, acting, etc., and a more intelligent script that was executed in a superior fashion. There is good reason for the difference in Metascore: 41 vs 78.
shareit's no contest in my mind...
1.Ex Machina (2015) - 7/10 (currently my #1 movie of 2015. it will likely remain in my Top 10-ish of 2015 when is all said and done.)
2.Chappie (2015) - 5-5.5/10 (Thumbs Down) ; decent enough to watch once though but not a movie ill see again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
i ultimately rate movies based on how much ill enjoy them and the further they get away from that the lower the rating.
with that in mind here is my rating scale in a basic sense...
10 = About as much as i can enjoy a movie
9 = Nearly as much as i can enjoy a movie
8 = Memorable
7 = A Solid Thumbs Up
6 = A Mild Thumbs Up (My minimum score to re-watch a movie)
5 = Average/Forgettable (Thumbs Down)
4 = Below Average
3 = Failure and/or Boring
2 = Failure and/or Boring
1 = Abysmal/Hate
for measure... most movies i see get a 5/10 with a 6/10 being the next most common.
for the record... i ultimately rate movies based on how much i enjoy them. the further they get away from that, the lower the rating.
p.s. only 54 movies (so far) out of the 1,850+ total movies i have seen managed to get a 9/10 or 10/10 rating from me. only another 49 managed to get a solid 8/10. if i count 7.5-8/10 and higher the total is around 150-200 or so. if i count solid 7/10's and higher (which Ex Machina is in) it's LESS THAN 300 movies.

Personally I enjoyed them enough to watch both movies twice. In the end though I have to rate Ex machina higher than Chappie.
Ex Machina had a weird depth and intimacy to it that left me with this sort of haunted feeling aftwerwards, but in a good way. It made me think, like really think. Plus the ending was an unexpected twist.
Chappie was good, I can't really find anything to fault it on. For me personally though I sort of fazed out in certain parts and wasn't paying attention, maybe it was all the slightly generic action scenes thrown in.
Chappie is clunky. Not a smart movie, in my opinion. Though, I enjoyed some parts of the movie, but in no way it is better than Ex MAchina. Ex Machina has depth and intelligent script, whereas Chappie lacks the potential to be a smart movie.
The dialogues were mildly impressive in Chappie. Also, The story wasn't that good. A better movie than Chappie? other than Ex MAchina, Robocop(1987)!
I was so looking forward to this movie, and I was diasspointed by it. Personally, I found Deon and Yolandi annoying. The characters in the movie were not that good.
That being said, Ex Machina is a lot better in many ways. It is such a polished movie with better acting, interesting characters and script. My only disappointment was the ending of the film.
Chappie: “You’re my maker; why did you make me so I could die?”
Ava: "Do you have people who test you and might switch you off?"
Ex Machina - 7/10
Chappie - 2/10
