Why Do Actors Think They Can Direct?

Time after time I see actors stepping into the director's chair and failing miserably. There are exceptions of course, Clint Eastwood comes to mind, but the majority of actors I've seen trying to direct typically produce fairly derivative work.

Directing is incredibly difficult, and very few people do it well, which is why I question why so many actors feel a need to try it, many of whom, quite frankly, are as dumb as a post.

I wish Angelina would just disappear.

I think she might have potential as a good director but I heard her talk about this movie and she was too in love with the story and being faithful to the "truth" to make a good movie. You can't be so emotionally connected to the material and make a good movie, imo. She has potential if she can distance herself from the material.

A better question is why do directors think they can act. That transition usually meets with much less success.

This movie deserves a 8.5/10 at the very least and Angelia did an AMAZING job, but because of people who hate her being idiots who found out she directed this masterpiece I would assume they gave this a 1/10 out of spite.

Haven't seen, did not rate.

Mel Gibson and Ron Howard are exceptions.

Are you kidding me? The movie was incredibly well made, p.s. American sniper isn't as well polished as this and the story is no where near as moving. I didn't know who directed it until the credits came on.

Good question. The answer of course is Ego.

How and why did Jolie get such a big movie her first time out? I'm hearing bad things about this film, especially from those who loved the book, and they all say it's the direction that is at fault.
