Why Do Actors Think They Can Direct?

Time after time I see actors stepping into the director's chair and failing miserably. There are exceptions of course, Clint Eastwood comes to mind, but the majority of actors I've seen trying to direct typically produce fairly derivative work.

Directing is incredibly difficult, and very few people do it well, which is why I question why so many actors feel a need to try it, many of whom, quite frankly, are as dumb as a post.

Why do people think directors have total control of movies?
Why do people think that acting doesn't take intelligence?
Why do IMDB users think they're professional film makers/critics?
Why do people recognize Quentin Tarantino as a director and not as a writer, even though he's a mediocre director?
Why do writers don't get credits for their work?

Until you answer those questions, you'll answer yours.

I do respect your opinion of hating Jolie as a director, but generalizing is not the safe way to support your statement. It shows how ignorant you are as a critic. So the joke is on you, quite frankly, you are just as dumb as your post.

reply

Angelina Jolie is a delusional narcissist, a lot of actors are.

Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Ron Howard, Ben Affleck, Mel Gibson, Robert Redford...I'd say they're pretty good at directing.

Except for the director of this movie did not fail miserably.

nashsuperfan, you're about as irrelevant as a gum wrapper on the bottom of a shoe. I'm sure if any millionaire happened upon this post (HUGELY UNLIKELY), they would feel the same way, lmao. Thanks for your worthless opinion (says virtually everyone in your miserable life).

being director as a profession gives you the greatest insight of how directors work...

If anyone really, it would be well seasoned actors being able to direct

Now directing is one tough profession, that's why 8 out of 10, or maybe even 9 out of 10 suck at it... And not talking about actor turning director, but directors...

I'd say, let them do whatever they wanna do... They have as big a shot of directing a good movie as most professional directors.

Well she is certainly better director than actor, i don't remember a single movie where she was half decent.
The only problem i had in this film is main actors horribly dyed hair, it looked just bad.
