Why Do Actors Think They Can Direct?

Time after time I see actors stepping into the director's chair and failing miserably. There are exceptions of course, Clint Eastwood comes to mind, but the majority of actors I've seen trying to direct typically produce fairly derivative work.

Directing is incredibly difficult, and very few people do it well, which is why I question why so many actors feel a need to try it, many of whom, quite frankly, are as dumb as a post.

All this hate just for Angelina Jolie. And I'm sure the reason it did not do well at Awards season is because it was directed by AJ. I think it's a well directed movie. And I'm sure if it was Clint Eastwood or Martin Scorcese that directed this, it will be sweeping award season.

When I see actors doing that, stepping behind the camera, I take it as them trying to expand in their career. Like, you know you can't keep doing the same thing forever. How many more movies can Angie play in before people just get tired of watching her on screen? Especially when there are new younger Hollywood starlets moving up the ranks. The same way some guy made start off doing more labor like work at a job lifting things, but as years go by he may discover another job that suits him more. Like end up doing a desk job, leave the labor work to the younger guys coming up in the company.
