In this movie, considering rom-com conventions and the fantasy associated with those conventions a younger actor is required for Reese's part. Reese is OK for the older woman opposite Robert PATTINSON in WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, for instance. This movie not so much.
SARAH JONES now appearing on FOX TV's ALCATRAZ would have been a better choice or someone of her generation.
And you can thank the economy (and the media) for that. Given the current state of affairs, less people are willing to venture out and "start their lives" in their early to mid 20's like before; let alone have a successful career like the ones portrayed here in this movie.
It's time for those nagging on 30+ people, still living with their parents, to face reality and realize that your so-called (financial) freedom (not depending on your parents) starts much later in life nowadays.
I don't think it's much about her age as it is about her looks. Witherspoon just isn't attractive enough. She was fine-looking a decade ago, but age doesn't go well with her. Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie were still both hot at 36, but Witherspoon just doesn't look like she's someone two superspy hunks would fight over.
I happen to think Reese is gorgeous. I'd be happy just to look half as good as she does now. it all depends on the person. I don't find it THAT disbelievable. One poster commented that Pine is better looking and I beg to differ. I quite honestly would pick Hardy over Pine any day of the week. Just my two cents.
I'm not saying she's not pretty, just not pretty enough to have 2 super agents falling head over heels for her in their first dates. You want to make it believable that two guys like that can't let go of a girl only after their first time to meet up, you better make sure you get a drop-dead gorgeous babe. Otherwise, it's not believable.
If the two guys couldn't let go of her after a few dates, after getting to know her better, then that's different. But they went gaga over her only after meeting her for a few minutes. You have to have someone with more "oomph" than Witherspoon to make that believable.
I don't exactly agree. A few minutes is long enough to strike up a conversation and grab a man's attention. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say and not every man goes gaga over people like Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox. Think about it this way: Tuck had a date with her, had a conversation and enjoyed where it went. That's where his interest it. FDR on the other hand was shot down by her. Chances are he isn't used to that so to him not only is she pretty but she's also a challenge. I'd say that's enough to go gaga.
No it's not enough. A few mins conversation over coffee is enough to get you interested in a girl, same with a few mins of getting shot down in a video store. That's enough to get interested in a girl.
But enough to go gaga over her and start going up against your bestfriend for? I don't think so. Enough to tell your best friend that you really really really like this girl and you can't give her up despite you having beautiful dates on a regular basis (like FDR)? I don't think so.
To pull something like that off, you need a girl who can make your jaw drop. Now, ask any guy out there, did their jaws drop the first time they saw Witherspoon in this movie?
they may be what does it for you but not others. As I've said before, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know men who's jaws drop when they see Angelina Jolie, other guys, she does nothing for them. Maybe there are guys out there who's jaws DO drop when they see her. For argument's sake, maybe the thing that makes them go "gaga" isn't just her looks.
I disagree because I find Reese to be extremely sexy, charming and funny. I think she did a really good job in this movie (besides picking the wrong guy) haha.
Well, I suppose if we follow "conventions", by Hollywood standards she'd be playing one of their mothers. However, by normal human being standards to look at that poster and say she wouldn't look right with either of them is insane. Mentalities like that of the OP ruin everything.

LOL She doesn't look old at all. She'll still be hot in another 10 years. It's really not unusual even if her character is a year or two older. Were they casting Taylor Lautner with Bette Midler? No...The characters are SUPPOSED to be established adults...It would be wierd to see 2 CSI Agents ( one a father ) in their 30s chasing down some 20 year old. Plus they would have to rewrite Laurens character completely because someone of that age wouldn't be looking for love, or be established etc
I'm amazed at how she doesn't seem to age... I thought she was very attractive in this movie... In fact, this is the best that I've seen her... Not that she's EVER been ugly, but for once she did have a "sex appeal..."
