Reese : TOO OLD for this part

In this movie, considering rom-com conventions and the fantasy associated with those conventions a younger actor is required for Reese's part. Reese is OK for the older woman opposite Robert PATTINSON in WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, for instance. This movie not so much.

SARAH JONES now appearing on FOX TV's ALCATRAZ would have been a better choice or someone of her generation.

No big deal. The movie was okay. I enjoyed seeing Reese play this part!!!

I thought Reese looks amazing, she was glowing in this movie and her eyes were sooo blue! I didn't think twice about anyone's age, and the chemistry she had with Tom Hardy on their first date scene was crazy, I can't believe she ended up with Chris Pine! His skin is terrible, and those hella eyebrows and goofy big head ...!

ikr this was the first thought that came on to my mind when i saw this.whatever her actual age is she looks at least 10 years older than them. and she is ok looking but definitely not worth two handsome hunks fighting over for, that made this movie unbelievable and defeated the whole purpose of the movie and top of all that lame jokes

You don't know right Mrs Snape...ya just dreaming!

She looked great. She's an established businesswoman.

They're 2 senior agents (one with a seven year old boy). They're not going to be chasing the teenage office girl.

Yes I agree the movie's unbelievable, but this part they got right

reply

Nobody is saying Reese's part should have been played by a 17 year old. Certainly a 25-30 year old though.

reply

I have to completely agree with you!! Cute movie, but I found myself trying to think of a more appropriate actress for the lead part the entire time. To think of two young, attractive men fighting over an almost 40-year-old woman was a little bit of a joke.

reply

I honestly think it comes down to the fact that Reese LOOKS her age - and amazing at that! Hardy & Pine still look like they are in their late 20s. I honestly had no idea they were older.

reply

Very true... Reese might even look a bit older. I pegged her for 40's and the guys as late 20's.

reply

You are bad a telling ages. Pine and Hardy look every bit in their 30s.

reply

Apparently you can't do math. Reese was in her mid 30s when she filmed this. Last I checked, someone in their mid 30s isn't a 40-year-old.

reply

Irrelevant. Guys find women in their 20's more attractive and although older women can be very attractive empirically and relatively, there was no reason not to cast hot young hollywood in this role. Nobody cares about Reese Witherspoon anymore. And certainly not at 40.

reply

Actually, there are tons of men that find teens most attractive (20s is past the prime, according to these same men), but are we going to cast Chloe Moretz as the lead being chased by two 30-somethings? Of course not. Reese was cast in context to the story and for her star power (which is obviously waning). Hot young actresses, sans maybe Jennifer Lawrence, are disposable and have no star power. The lead role required a name and a woman believable as career-minded, smart and a go-getter.

And no, you not being able to do math and disingenuously rounding her age up is not irrelevant.

reply

I agree. Saw this film for the first time. Hollywood is full of mid20s beautiful actresses. They truly didn't need to go with a 40 year old for the love interest. In the real world, women are far more desirable when they are young as men are far more desirable in adulthood. This doesn't work and really hurts what could have been a really funny movie. I actually felt badly for Reese with the amount of makeup she was wearing to appear young. It reminded me of meg Ryan's later roles. Reese can play the dramatic romantic lead but she is done with youth romantic comedies. She needs to start playing the hot you mom.

reply

I think she was hilarious. Let me just say I LOVED this movie.

reply

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I thought everyone was aware of that. Instead I find blanket statements here about at what ages men and women are considered attractive as if it's some scientific law.

I've read some dumb pointless posts on IMDb, but I 5hink this won wins the double dumb as a doorknob prize.

So it isn't plausible that a woman in her mid 30's is looking for a partner? Or it isn't funny to you? Why is that?

I thought she was great in the part. If they had used a younger woman, having the job that she did and doing it so well would not be credible. Or maybe you think she should have been younger and had an entry-level job, but wait, that wouldn't have been so funny because she wouldn't be able to hold her own with those two guys now, would she?

Maybe you should get busy on a different screenplay?
