Why are all US sports so boring?

The USA has given the world many great things in the fields of Technology,Fashion, Music,Film etc etc. However when it comes to Sports the US is a disaster.Basically, very few outside the US have any interest at all in a single sport that the Americans invented.Baseball- I believe only the Cubans and Japanese play or have any interest in it.American Football-popular nowhere outside the USA.Basketball-yes its popular in quite a few countries but mainly countries which are bad at soccer (Eastern Europe,China etc.In major European sporting countries like Germany, France, the UK its dead). Volleyball- a niche sport at best. The famous (in the USA)athletes who play these sports could walk naked down any street around the world and not get a second glance.

Iam dutch, but you ever watched nba, nfl, or nhl, or baseball?

Yeah agree when those sports are played outside usa its not that good.
though i been 2 a european basketball game between amsterdam and sofia. and that was fun. Unfortunally i never played those sports.
And i played 35years soccer. But 2 be honest. 2 watch soccer is borring as hell,

Unless its Ajax Amsterdam, But thats no soccer thats art.

You dont like the sports in the usa, because you probably dont understand *beep* from it.

Try throw a ball with 6 guys of at least 200pounds run into you try 2 get the ball.
What try 2 throw the egg shapped ball 40 yards in the hands of a receiver. with nobody in front of you.

NFL is the most underated sport in the world, so tactical, hard and big hits and spectaculair catches.
NBA is spectaculair with the dunks and *beep*
no if 1 sport is borring 2 watch is actually soccer.
players fall like feathers these days.
But men watch what you like 2 watch.

Baseball - When a batter takes a 95 mph fastball off his shoulder.. what does he do? he either A. shrugs it off and takes his base. B. Charges the mound.

Football - When a wide receiver gets blasted by a cornerback and holds onto the ball what does he do? A. Shake it off and motion "first down." B. Flex.

Soccer (Footie) - When a Footie player ALMOST gets touched.. what does he do? he either A. Hits the deck, plays dead and waits for the ref to penalize the opposition. B. Grabs a body part, grimaces in fake pain, hits the deck, then proceeds to go into convulsions like a chicken that just had it's head chopped off.

Rugby Football would like to have a word with you. At least their players don't walk around in medieval armour just to avoid getting a bruised shoulder.

A director is only as good as their last film.

You obviously didn't watch the video . That "medieval armour" can also be used as a weapon. Nice try, mate.

reply

I was joking. The reason that American football has Armour pads and helmets is that, unlike rugby, tackling above the waist is condoned and much more dangerous.

My sarcasm detector was off. My bad.

It's okay, my bull sheet meter wasn't working either.

Dumb Eurotrash, I guess you rather have a skinny eurotrash protect your QB from getting sacked than a big guy like Michael Oher.

This is the dumbest thread I have ever seen.

You find American sports boring simply because its not played world wide?

I must come to a conclusion that you are a roman catholic and you enjoy going to sunday masses because it has the biggest followers in the world like soccer?

Maybe you should ask: Why are sports fans around the world so snooty that they refuse to try to like the great exciting sports that are so popular in America?

I'll ask this: Name a sport other than soccer, that was invented in other countries that is nearly as popular around the world as is basketball. Or baseball. What other sports are nearly that popular? Rugby? Cricket? Polo?

There are professional baseball leagues in dozens of countries and many of them consider it to be their most popular, or maybe a close second. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba, Venezuela, and Canada are just some places where it is a highly popular sport--far more popular than most sports invented abroad.

I submit you are wrong on all of your points, greekoid, including the last one. Due to the highly muscular tone of the majority of our American athletes, I believe they would get lots of admiring looks if they walked naked down streets around the world.

I am a Brit that works in the betting industry and have seen/traded almost every sport.
The main reason NFL failed to take off was the sheer cost of starting up a team. It was disappointing the first time round with the Dolphins when NFL tried breaking Europe to get a foothold, there was no intention of sustaining the relationship,it was a quick money grab, clubs were set up without any real financial backing, and the interest wasn't sustained. Typically most people that turn to NFL (in UK) were failed rugby players too,so not the best athletes to advertise the sport.

NBA does acutally have a decent following. It's a large sport in the UK but if we were to truly entertain I feel the UK desperately needs good ex coaches from the NBA rather than players who had a 3 year career for the mavericks and failed to make starts from the roster. Basketball is a BIG part of the P.E curriculum in the UK over winter you'll never really get any players of quality from here though as the game isn't taught at a truly tactically intellectual level. The team with the tallest players usually wins.

Baseball is my personal favourite of the American sports. I enjoyed trading this. I DESPISE cricket its main counterpart in the UK.I like the 2 minute break after a finished innings,it breaks it up. It keeps you entertained for 3 hours. In terms of betting I used to make a fair amount of money using the statistics. Baseball will never take up across UK or europe because quite frankly the sexists here view it as a feminist sport as typically it's a lot like rounders played at girls schools, although show me an 11 year old girl who can smack a ball 420 yards and I'll show you a flying pig!!!!

Ofcourse the main thing that hampers foreign sports int he UK are the timeses they're shown. If I wanna watch the superbowl I have to stay up till 4am,if I wanna watch a full west coast baseball match I'm staying up till 5 am. Basketball although played by more people, generally gets the least viewing times for matches.tpyically only highlights are shown. ESPN UK doesn't help by ownly showing HEAT games.

As some one said, only the dropouts from your teams play soccer in America. Well it's the same here,if you can't play football(soccer) cricket and rugby....you play a foreign sport.

BTW I personally play AFL.. I've found this to be the single most exciting game I;ve ever played and the physically and durability of it is immense
