She was also in another Tom Hanks movie - Dragnet - but her role got cut out. There was a sexual harassment story that she told in the Fall 1993 issue of Femme Fatales: https://archive.org/details/Femme_Fatales_v02n02/page/n33/mode/2up
Billy Dee Williams had the hots for her.
In the September 10, 1984 issue of Jet, he expressed an interest in working with her. He said: <i>“That face of hers is magic time. She has a quality because of her mixture. My daughter is a mixture and is beautiful. Jennifer is a beautiful, incredible mixture. That's why I want to do a film in Brazil. It's an area where it's a mixture of Africa, Europe and Indian. And the most beautiful people exist in that part of the world.”</i>
Her husband at the time directed her in this along with In the Soup (1992), Sons (1989) and 13 Moons (2002).
In the March 1990 issue of Ebony, Lynn Norment wrote: <i>It is well documented that the father of actress Jennifer Beals was indeed a Black Chicago South Side business owner. However, Beals has never publicly identified with the Black community.
Though Jennifer Beals have never closely identified with the black community, she was nominated for the NAACP Los Angeles chapter's Image Award in 1983 after her successful acting debut in Flashdance. The NAACP emphasized that the Image Awards were created to honor individuals - both black and white - who present a positive image for minorities.
Beals' father, who owned several grocery stores on Chicago's South Side, died when she was 9. Her mother, an Irish school teacher, then moved to Chicago's North Shore and Jennifer grew up in an upper-middle class white environment. At the height of her Flashdance fame, she was a student at Yale University. "I thought I would never get in," she said then. "I thought they only took geniuses. But I was lucky, because I'm a minority. I'm not black, and I'm not white, so I could mark 'other' on my application, and I guess it's hard for them to fill that quota."</i>
The June 1990 issue featured a letter from someone who knew her: <i>"I was at Yale University during the time Jennifer Beals was a student, and it bothered me then how she rarely associated herself with any Afro-Americans."</i>
In the March 1993 issue of Ebony, it was revealed that she had the same agent (Dolores Robinson) as Wesley Snipes but he had way more exposure than her in the '90s.
She was in John Cusack's Runaway Jury (2003) but she was like an extra.
In a 2013 interview for The Guardian, Denzel said: <i>"For whatever reason, I never befriended any white actors."</i>
Imagine if De Palma had directed it with Travolta as the star, predating their team-up for Blow Out.
American Gigolo was a timely consolation prize for Gere, especially since it was released in the same month as Cruising.

Jeff Bridges was up for the role but dropped out. Another candidate was Timothy Bottoms.
What hurt her career in the late '90s was allegedly walking off the set of Deep Rising after 3 days of filming. Supposedly, she had creative differences with the director, who was also the writer. There's an alternate explanation online that's mentioned on more than one site: <i>"She was fired from the action thriller "Deep Rising" after she refused to make adjustments in her character development to suit director Stephen Sommers' vision."</i>
She was replaced by Famke Janssen, who went on to have a more high-profile career.
In issue #113 of Mad Movies, the writer/director said: <i>"When we started shooting Deep Rising, I had a 96 page script. We only cut one short scene for story reasons, to make the story progress faster."</i>
That might have had something to do with Claire's departure since she left after three days of filming.
