It reminds me of The Union starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry.
It would have been less disappointing, because you expect something darker from Craven.

Whenever I think of VHS tapes literally blurring the line between realism and fakery, I think of how the moon landing footage was made blurry. Although that was different because they had a camera aimed at the monitor displaying footage that was being projected onto a screen.

To add to that, Bronson made the mistake of turning down some big films just because he wanted to be with Jill Ireland (on camera as well as off). Something that even Michael Winner once mentioned in a documentary about him.
Bronson had a less rigid face than Clint Eastwood, so I think he had it within himself to play more vulnerable or sensitive characters had he been so inclined.
