I see your points all around but here's the most confounding issue.
During the scene where Dr. Ana Stelline looks at K's memory, to determine if it's a real memory or implanted, why did she not reveal to him that the memory was hers? It seems cruel to me that he went on this long journey, threw away the life he had, lost his love interests (holographic Joi was real to him), only to be deceived in hoping that he had a real past.
That's a logic issue I can't reconcile. She could have saved him a lot of personal pain. It actually kind of angers me the more i think about it.
Yeah I saw that too, on the Audience Scores at RT. Also totally agree that Thor: Ragnarok was more fun than Black Panther.
I enjoyed it, especially the big car chase at the end. I've laid it out with Pros and Cons below.
Pros - Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. He's just an average guy type of superhero, trying to do good. He's sort of the well intentioned screw-up who keeps getting into trouble but finding a way out. There's a lot more action sequences. Walton Goggins as Sonny Birch puts on show (he was really entertaining in this role), and Evangeline Lilly steps up as Wasp. Luis was in Luis form again, just as hilarious as before. Plenty of good acting all around and good pacing overall.
Cons - Ghost could have been a bit more developed as a character. We never got to spend more time with her. It also bothered me that the "You go low, I'll go high" moment from the trailers wasn't in the movie (c'mon MCU, quit doing that). The only other thing that bothered me, was the continuity issue over how the Pym Particle tech for shrinking was shown, versus how it was explained in the original movie. I didn't think that the wearer of Hank's shrinking suits could remove their helmet when they were shrunk [see Darren Cross's moment of discovery in the first Ant-Man] and yet Scott does just this during the excursion into his daughter's school.
Anyhow, that's my take on the movie. I'll certainly see it again and will give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
Battle Rhinos man!!!
Seriously though, it was over-hyped. A lot of critics declared it the "best Marvel movie ever", which it's clearly not.
Is it a fun movie? Sure.
Is it another solid MCU movie? Of course.
Is it better than Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers or Captain America: Civil War? No way.
I would even argue that Ant-Man is better as it was more enjoyable. Black Panther certainly belongs in the Top 10 of MCU movies however. I like the character and look forward to future BP movies.
I'm looking forward to Aquaman and Shazam for sure, yet I'm also looking forward to Ant-Man and Wasp.
Can't a comic book fan like both? I know, I'm more of a Marvelhead but that doesn't mean I have to hate DC. The reverse is true as well.
Why would someone boycott this movie? Do they club baby seals in it or is there racism? Seriously, I've not read any early reviews that allude to such things. If you don't like, then don't see. I never boycott anything, I just don't pay money to support something I might not enjoy.
Ketchup?
Thanks for the synopsis! I'm going to see it tonight and I'm looking forward to it.
Twelve Monkeys is in my top 3 best time travel movies of all time, just behind Primer and right before Back To The Future.
It's a complex and emotional movie, visually pleasing, has a good story and fine acting.
Emma Stone would have been an awesome Captain Marvel. I also agree 100% about a Black Widow movie.
Good point! I'd forgot that was mentioned before, back when directors and studios were targeting RT and blaming them for declining box office takes. They're just an aggregate site but are owned by WB.
Yeah, see I don't think she's all that great. Until Kong: Skull Island, I'd never even heard of her and she played a so-so character in the movie. I've heard she won an Oscar but I'm wondering for what. Not for a movie I've seen.
I have faith in Marvel though, certainly with Feige at the helm. Let's just hope they aren't making this movie to appease some small segment of the viewing public who want to squabble about PC optics. That would be a bad move.
That ketchup is ready, if you still need it. LOL!
If it makes you feel any better, I've got bets that Captain Marvel will be the first flop of the MCU. I just don't see a welling of interest in that character. That could change though with the master Feige in charge.
We shall see.
Metacritc now has AMATW at 71% (17 positives, 5 mixed). Rotten Tomatoes now shows 91% (45 positive, 4 negative). Oh and since your mentioned it, IMBD currently shows the movie with a 9.2 out of 10.
Ketchup?
Still need some Ketchup?
It's showing 97% right now on Rotten Tomatoes (28 positives, 1 negative) and 70% on Metacritic (17 positives and 5 mixed).
Doesn't appear to be headed towards "flop" territory. Just saying.
I sure hope it's good. I've been looking forward to it and Shazam. If both of these movies are hits, they will help resurrect the DCEU.
I thought it was superb and a much more authentic interpretation of the British graphic novel than the 1990's Stallone movie.
It's a train wreck on a bridge, over a city-ending tsunami wave BAD!
I think they will defeat him in a way that takes away his powers or renders him unable to be a threat again. Could be that he dies though, you never know with Marvel Studios. They like to surprise you.
I've seen this movie several times and it's in my DVD collection. I first saw it on TBS, using a black and white television that was at my grandmother's house. It was such a thrill, the thought of time travel. When I was in my 20's I read the book by H.G. Wells and have at least two copies of it.
Anyway, here's where I think your disconnect is - Filby's son can't remember much about "the man who lived there" when referring to George's own house, because the son is only in his early 20's. How many random adults do you remember meeting during the ages of 2-4? Not many, if any. This is the same with Filby's son. So even IF Filby told his family about his friend George who claimed to have time traveled, would you remember much about it or even WHO that time traveler was, if you'd met him while very young?
