Was okay. but couldn't get past differences in physical attractiveness
A poor Jon Favreau is not going to receive affection from a wealthy Sophia Vergara. Also, is not going to bed a Scarlett Johansson.

shareI didn't find this difficult to believe at all. Women are often attracted to successful men. The chef, Carl (Favreau) is portrayed as being a highly successful chef who is a little down on his luck. He works in an upscale restaurant and, from the back story, clearly initially was respected enough to write his own ticket regarding the terms of his employment with his boss.
Carl has fallen on hard times because (a) he's reached an impasse in his previously good relationship with his boss and (b) his wife probably got most of his money in his divorce. But I have no problem believing that a man who is financially success, highly respected, and probably also cooked great meals privately for his wife would have had a difficult time finding an attractive partner.

To be fair Scarlett Johansson downplayed her looks for the film with that frumpy hair style, should she have been denied the part for being too attractive?
Sophia Vergara's father in the film is quite rotund which would explain why weight isn't a big deal to her.
Quit exhaling! You are contributing to global warming.
I think this remark just reflects a superficiality you should address.
Many beautiful women love men who are superficially less attractive. But add on their wit, their humor, their intelligence, their positive attitude or their ability to cook and it's obvious why they love them.
Women want a man who makes them feel good.
If you don't know that yet, god help you.
As a woman who looks similar to Sofia Vergara (Minus the height)
I have been with all sorts of men. When i was 18 and a model at the time, i was with an ugly 45 year old mna who was slightly overweight.
I don't go for guys my own age and i don't go for guys who look good. The Guys who look like meatheads in the gym are the ones who turn me off the most.
There are a couple reasons why i like the older or slightly overweight guy.
First i like smart men. men who work out alot in the gym are often not smart. they are the dumb ones. i don't like dumb men. they have little prospects career wise and often act like monkeys. i like my men smart and geeky. Most smart and geeky men are polite and respectful and have good career outlooks. even if they have no money or broke right now. i know them being smart means that they have alot more job opportunities in the future.
The other reasons is i am a little insecure. I know good looking men have too many women chasing them. All of them probably cheat as there is many other good looking women chasing them. I also find good looking men to be smug and often act like jerks because well... they could get away with it because they are good looking.
For these reasons. i tend to go for guys who are older and not so good looking. Money isn't an issue. I run my own business and make alot on my own so i don't mind if they are poor as long as they aren't asking me to financially support them.
I like men who are slightly overweight. not obese but a beer belly is fine. I prefer being treated with respect. knowing they won't cheat because there is no women chasing after my man and i also like to be the better looking one as i feel like it makes the man appreciate me more. knowing they got someone who is physically better than they are.
When you write, star, direct and produce your character can hook up with anyone you please... (agreed. lame casting.)

I can believe that someone who was overweight but had that passion and drive and skills could attract women regardless of them being scarlett johansson.
but you know, it is hollywood still. take for example seth rogen, He is a big boned, poor, vulgar, immature geeky stoner in most of his movies yet manages to nail amber heard and katherine heigl.
another example is Clerks 2. How does Dante, an overweight, miserable man pushing 40 and working in a fast food joint get the attention of rosario dawson?
these last two points i cant believe, it just doesn't happen in the world i live in anyway.
