Was okay. but couldn't get past differences in physical attractiveness

Jon Favreau wasn't poor in the film. As a matter of fact there's a "while she spends my divorce money" line in the movie that basically is saying that at one time Jon had more money than he had currently. Plus, you have to remember a couple of other things. One, they met, what, maybe 10-12 years earlier. Two, maybe he is well-endowed:). Chef's can make good money. Who's to say that the two weren't in opposite shoes 10 years earlier. I see beautiful women with ugly men all the time, and not always is it a case of having a 'sugar-daddy'... besides, Jon is absoltely charming in the film, and based on all his films/performances, he seems like a guy that could befriend just about anyone.

As for Johanson... in the setting in the film, John would be making about double what she was making, and it's obvious that the amazing food was an aphrodisiac for her... it is for many women. Disagree in about every way.

Shallow and stupid.

Physical attractiveness is not the only thing that brings people together. Scarlett's character had clearly worked with Jon Favreau's for quite some time and they were friends. It isn't hard for friendship to slip into love or at least a little bit of attraction. As for Sophia, they did point out that Jon's character had gained weight since they had first met and been married.

I disagree: Favreau is a handsome dude.
Plus, I think it was implyed in the movie that when Favreau's character and Vergara's character first meet, she wasn't wealthy. I mean... She grow up in Little Habana. How much money could she have had? (sorry for my english :$ )
I think both characters found success and wealth later on, and at the time in witch the movie was set, Favreau's character had less money because of the divorce.
And in the case of Johansson, her character was a metre in a restaurant. Do you know who is the alpha-male-super-rock-start-chicks-dig-him person in a restaurant? The cheff.

Did you people even watch the movie?? When they were married he was not fat, as told by the reviewer who knew him from Miami and mentions his dramatic weight gain, or something to that effect.

Also the Scarlett J character clearly bags him for the food.
