Good acting and good directing. But it's a bad movie. I'll tell you why.

Because it commits the one, main deadly sin that destroys a movie. It's boring.
You could have William Hurt, Sam Rockwell and Philip Seymour Hoffman directed by Scorsese, it wouldn't matter one damn bit when the movie is boring.
Yes, I know it's a "slow buildup" but it's BORING. And it didn't have to be. Lots of good movies have "slow buildups" or are generally slow, but they are still good.

And here comes the bit that's going to pull everybody's panties into a collective twist:
I turned it off after about one hour. Because it was boring.
I like art films, I admire the works of Von Trier, Malick and Wes Anderson. I do not demand constant action. I demand not boring.

Haha, you put William Hurt and Sam Rockwell in the same category as PSH?

Are you f'ing serious?

William Hurt sucks and Rockwell is a hack. You probably masturbate to Rockwell in that sh!tty Poltergeist remake.

It's not an art film. My favorite part is Chicory and the Sheriff talking about corn soup. My second favorite part is the story about the flea circus.

Yes, it's slow. However, it's pretty and has good action when it needs it.

When the horror comes, as long as you nothing about the film as I did when I watched it, it kicks you in the balls hard. The first time I watched it, I had to turn my head away at the scalping scene. I've never done that in a movie ever.

Sometime, when you're driving across the US and you hit Wyoming or Colorado, Nebraska or South Dakota, any place where the fetch is over 100 miles, just drive north or south off the interstate. Get yourself about 15-20 miles into the prairie and just listen.

This is what this movie does for me. It's the wind in the grass. The whistle across the trees when you find a creek and some willows. It's the eerie silence when the bugs and birds stop.

It wasn't boring, you probably just have the attention span of a gnat. The dialog was well written and the plot/character building was intriguing. So consider me unconvinced of your argument when you repeated "boring" so many times it sounded like you couldn't even hold your own attention.

You`re wrong. It is not boring.

I saw the whole thing; it is subjectively boring. There are great ideas and great acting, but the line between pacing and plodding were crossed.

I turned it off after about one hour.

I literally stopped reading your comment after this. Your argument is invalid because you did not see the movie.

I can't stand this generation of movie goers. Anyone who's browsing the net on their phones and posting on sites like this while they're in the middle of the movie don't even deserve an opinion. That is not how you're meant to watch movies. You should try to fully immerse yourself like you would if you ere watching it at the cinemas with no distractions.

The setting you watch a movie in also plays a big part. If you're watching it on a small screen or during the day with sun pouring into the room or in a house with other people sauntering around and walking through the room then you're not going to be able to enoy it properly or immerse yourself in the movie at all. God forbid people that actually watch movies on their tiny phones or even through a very small laptop screen with only the laptop speakers. Some people are just doing it all wrong and ruining the experience for themselves.

Finally, boring is highly subjective. Most people have very small attention spans. Most junk TV shows are designed for these people - A constant bombardment of things happening just to merely keep their attention.

Excellent points. I agree 100%.

I feel perhaps either you wasn't in the mood for this type of film or you couldn't appreciate the beauty of it. Why does a film have to be so perfect and so brushed up. For me it was the Flimby directing style that made the film. Why do we have to over Polish everything.

So the middle wasn't action packed but it was funny if watched with a different perspective.

Possibly a cult classic for me. Like tremors...

I really don't think this film was ment to be an all out horror. Just a journey....
