The flag at the end...

why was it shown with such dramatic effect? American propaganda?

reply

The blatant bit of jingoism at the end really topped the hilarity of the film off. After the flag was unrolled (where the hell did that flag come from and who had the time to put it up?) I was expecting to see a balding eagle perch on The Rocks shoulder and a Jedi ghost form of Chris Kyle giving him a wink.

The American Flag flew in Europe all the way from France to Germany, as well as in Africa and Italy during Operation Torch.

When Euros get butthurt about seeing the American flag in an American movie that takes place in America, I lose all respect for them.

When it comes to flag waving jingoism, no one can touch the Brits. They've got flags everywhere. Flags on their shirts, flags on their hats, flags on umbrellas, flags on their underwear, flags coming out the wazoo. It's mind boggling.

reply

No, it's not propaganda, it's a cliché and this movie can't resist cliché's, the cheesier and more obvious the better. This movie was always going to end with an American Flag.

As an aussie, the first time I went to the U.S I was stunned by how many flags there were hanging off buildings, homes etc. Seemed to be everywhere. just the way they do things.

As I said up thread, no one can top the British when it comes to flag overkill.

Who told you that? There tends to be surge of patrotism (in England atleast) during the main international football/soccer competitions (if we're involved), but apart from that I rarely see any flags.

What did you visit the USA right after 911. Because that the only time ive ever seen American Flag on nearly everyone home. Otherwise its on some building and state capital. Otherwise you must have been in the thick of Redneck Country.

reply

Personally I've been there twice about 15 years ago, one to LA and the West and to NY and the upper East. Flags everywhere... Aside from houses.... every factory seemed to be flying one

reply

Not like propaganda really .. United States was built by immigrant European people remember this.. and when you see the flag ..it is said that we'll re-built.

“I steal from every movie ever made.”

reply

Yes, it's the usual American propaganda. They must be really insecure since they just have to cram that stupid flag everywhere.
