Did not deserve best picture
Is a well written and acted film with a great social statement, but simply cannot match the stylistic mastery and beautiful/brutal story of The Revenant.
shareIs a well written and acted film with a great social statement, but simply cannot match the stylistic mastery and beautiful/brutal story of The Revenant.
shareStylistically I agree with you. I feel like the Revenant definitely deserved best director and cinematography because it was beautiful, but I didn't think it was solid enough story wise to win. I know part of the story is the brutality but it didn't have as big of an impact on me as others. I enjoyed Spotlight and it had a great cast. It was very good but not great. I thought The Big Short deserved to win. It's solid in every way in my opinion. Cast, directing, writing and was really informative in a unique and funny way while still discussing a serious crisis.
shareSpotlight had to win because it carried the interests of solid political lobby. In today's day and age, anything against the Church establishment is bound to get a few nods. They were obligated to give it Best Picture, although it failed to win anything else. Great work to Journalism to get to the bottom of sex scandals but not deserving the forced recognition. Wonder which lobby pushed harder? Was it Jewish lobby or Protestant lobby... toss of the coin!
shareI say the Protestant lobby only because there are more Protestants is the US than Jews. Both Jewish lobby and Protestant lobby like to cater to the dwindling WASP community in the US. (Anglo-Saxons are on the dollar and they've shrunk to 5% of the US's population.) The US will probably be a Latin country like the Roman-Catholic countries in Latin Europe and Latin America soon enough.
shareWhat is this Protestant lobby you speak of, Goobs?
shareYou must have been called "Goobs" non-stop as a child. Hence, your incessant use of it on IMDb. Anyway, my message was a response to the message vicky_maly posted on this thread.
shareWhere is this Protestant lobby you speak of?
shareAgain (but, not surprisingly) you're not able to find messages, JoeMama2016. Read the message IMDb member vicky_maly left on this thread on Thu Mar 10 2016 08:47:48 and you'll find the answer!
shareGoobs, what is this Protestant lobby you speak of? Name the organization.
shareOh! Go eat a dingleberry pie!
shareCan't answer a simple question, Goobs? Are you that much of a simpleton. What is the name of this Protestant lobby you speak of? Surely you have enough brain power under the that tin foil hat, Goobs.
shareEvidently, you know what the word "Protestant" means. It's the word "lobby" you're having trouble with. In this case, "lobby" is a group of persons engaged in trying to influence legislators, etc. Now, put 2 and 2 together and make 4, JoeMama2016.
shareWho are these people, Goobs? Name names. Lobbys are groups, not just a group of people. Name one Protestant lobbying group.
shareJoeLuvsMama, you are a real jerk! The IMDb member vicky_maly used the terms "Jewish lobby" and "Protestant lobby" meaning people of those groups in general. What's the matter...did your worthless crybaby Protestant feelings get hurt by vicky_maly using "Protestant lobby"?
shareGoobs, name names. Who is this Protestant lobby? You are going by what another poster says without evidence? Get off your lazy arse and find who this Protestant lobby is.
shareDrop dead, you inbred fool!!!
shareName one organization, Goobs. Is it that difficult or are you too lazy arsed to find the Protestant lobby?
shareYou're the fool, Goobs. You talk about something that you can't even show evidence that exists.
shareYou're on your own with this "Protestant lobby" thing, JoeLuvsMama. You've been told what it means and you've been told in English (which is a language you're meant to be understanding!) Try brushing up on Spanish since it's usurping English rapidly as the US's most spoken language.
Oh, BTW, Spanish is a Romance language. Derived from the Roman language Latin. How are you going to feel when a Roman-Catholic language is spoken as the official language in the USA? You'll be a Latin just like the Roman-Catholic Italians, the Spaniards, the French, the Portuguese and the Latin American people. How charming!
Once again you are expecting other people to do your work for you. You talk about this Protestant lobby, but you won't name names or organization. Keep on wearing that tin foil hat and get yourself a tin foil purse.
Any person of science knows that you need evidence to back of your claim. If you are as intelligent as you claim, you would have back up to your assertions. Maybe you can play the Illuminati card, Goobs.
You must have been called "Goobs" non-stop as a child. Hence, your incessant use of it on IMDb.
The Revenant was so simple.
shareIt easily deserved best picture. It featured an amazing screenplay that helped bring out some of the best performances by the actors involved. I just hope by this picture winning the award, it will help push Hollywood towards developing more original movies. Reboots and superheroes are getting rather tiresome.
shareI also agree that Spotlight didnot deserve Best Picture. I personally believe "Brooklyn", or "The Danish Girl" or even "Room" should have won Best Picture. Sometimes the Academy has it wrong.
shareI have not seen the Revenant, but I would agree this was not a Best Picture, by any standard. It was a good movie. Not a best picture.
Even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up!
I can get what you all are saying
But I can see why it was chosen. In making a statement and being powerful while just using talking and speaking this film can be powerful and can grab you hold and not let you go.
Having just seen it, I have to agree with you. The characters all seemed rather one-dimensional, and there was no tension in the story at all, which is strange, considering the appalling events it was dealing with. I'm afraid I thought the acting was rather poor too. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I must say it disappointed me.
