Remember when Steve Martin used to be funny...?
Yeah, neither can I...
shareI miss the old Steve Martin. He's not getting any younger, and he should think that he has less time to experiment and take these roles just for the money. On PP2's release,I'd rather watch Dirty rotten Scroundels or Planes Trains & Automobiles.
"What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left."
I love the Jerk. It's a classic. Guess everyone has a different sense of humor, but I think he's funny.
shareI do.
And I miss him very much.
He's an extremely intelligent man by all accounts and wrote a wonderful memoir last year; I can't wrap my head around why he continues to make such terrible films. Sure, the money money, but someone of his aptitude could still write a better screenplay than this.

What Would Gibson Do?
He's a comedic genius with impeccable timing. Just watch the recent episode of 30 Rock he was on. Brilliant!
The problem is that he hadn't picked/been offered a good script in over 10 years. His last really funny movie was Sgt. Bilko, and that was 13 years ago.
I'd love to see a movie with him, Chevy, and Marty Short together again. If they got some good writers working with them (maybe a couple writers from 30 Rock), they could all give us one last great movie.
They say every fighter has one last great fight in them. I think those three all have one last great movie in there somewhere.

I have disagree. Chevy Chase is DONE. He hasn't done anything funny in about 20 years. Martin Short is a genius and definatley should be doing something else. Steve Martin has no shame. The first thing I thought when I saw the trailer for PP2 is "he has no shame"...it looks pretty bad.
Chevy Chase could make a triumphant comeback a la Bill Murray if he hadn't burned every bridge in Hollywood. There was an interesting article about him a year or so ago in some magazine, but basically he alienated himself from every major studio because as his celebrity weakened he continued acting like an ass.
You can act like an ass when you're raking in money and get away with it, but once you're on your third Vacation sequel and doing straight-to-TV work, you lose that privilege.

You forgot Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris as well
shareHis last really funny movie was Sgt. Bilko, and that was 13 years ago.
wait what sgt bilko, are you serious? even in his so called prime he olny had a few truly good movies where he was the lead. he is much better as a sideman with another good comedic actor, and even then they good movies are far and few between.

Yeah, he sucks but he was very good in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
.......
No, not really. That was an overrated generation of comedic actors.
shareSure, he hasn't been at his best in recent years, but seriously, if you can't remember him being funny, then you either need a sense of humor or you're under the age of 20. I'm not even much older than that but even I know he was a stand-up genius---the first real stand up comedian rock star! Plus throw in The Jerk, Planes Trains, Dirty Rotten, All of Me, Bowfinger and others...
shareyeah he was a stand-up legend for like 15 years and then he got fame finally, started doing SNL and movies that were amazing...then he got hollywood'd and something happened to his career
