BOYCOTT THIS MOVIE

"The Pink Panther 2" represents everything that is wrong with Hollywood today. A terrible sequel to a terrible remake. Why even bother to make a second one after the FIRST one crapped all over Peter Seller's legacy? Didn't it used to be that Hollywood only made sequels to GOOD films? And why remake the Pink Panther in the first place? Become nobody today has heard of Peter Sellers or Blake Edwards? Please.

Even if this film SOMEHOW managed to defy all odds and be up there with Steve Martin's great film work in his heyday like "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" and "The Jerk", it STILL wouldn't hold a candle to the real second Pink Panther film, "A Shot in the Dark", which was and will remain an absolute MASTERPIECE of cinema among a broad consensus of audiences and critics alike.

At least Tim Burton was kind enough to spare us his original plans of doing "Planet of the Apes 2" after his godawful "reimagining" of the first one tanked.

(By the way, with "Apes" and "Panther" being "reimagined", it seems the term "reimagining" is Hollywood codeword for "replaced everything that was good about the original movie with soulless garbage") These films were "imagined" perfectly the first time, so Hollywood serves no purpose in trying to re-invent the wheel.)

I guess Steve Martin has no such shame. Oh, and even the guy who butched the first one (Shawn Levy) isn't willing to screw up The Pink Panther legacy anymore, leaving "Harald Zwart" (whose main claim to fame is "Agent Cody Banks") to direct this pitiful attempt to get more gullible audience cash by having a famous movies titles. By the way, according to IMDB, his next project is a "reimagining" of The Karate Kid. Oh goody. Maybe he can "reimagine" The Godfather next and cast remake leaders Adam Sadler as Michael Corleone, with Steve Martin as the Don himself.

In short -- AVOID this movie like the plague. Don't go see it in theaters, don't rent it, don't even illegally download it. Make sure you send a message loud and clear to Hollywood to stop with the horrid remakes and sequels. Spare us "The Pink Panther 3", and maybe they'll produce something original and creative for a change.

Well said pal. Hollywood is bankrupt of ideas and values, period. Give me the Hollywood of 40 years ago, when the titans of cinema and tv were still alive: Gleason, Groucho Marx, Bob Hope, Orson Welles, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Carson, Lucille Ball, John Wayne, et al.

Basically these are like the countless sequels they used to make. Some of Sellers were and some were ok. Then after he died they tried to make a film to explain what happend and that sucked. The problem is, most people don't like physical comedy anymore. They rather have it raunchy. i am no way defending this film, I have yet to see it.

You answered your own post.

Planet of the Apes tanked. The Pink Panther did well at the box office, and in today's times, that garners a sequel. This one will probably do well this weekend, and then tank due to Valentine's Day next week.

Creative, original movies are being made every day, all over the world. You just have to look for them yourself. You're only complaining about Hollywood, but that's Hollywood. No ambition, just looking for profit. Direct your attention to film festivals and the foreign film scene, you'll be amazed at the quality work that is coming out today.

I'll say it for the millionth time, when people refused to travel on buses in Alabama in the 1960s that was a boycott. You are just choosing not to go an see a film. Don't get ideas above your station.

Good news, guys! This is the Friday and Saturday box office:

1: He's Just Not That Into You with $27,465,000
2: Taken with $20,300,000
3: Coraline with $16,335,000
4: The Pink Panther 2 with $12,000,000
5: Paul Blart: Mall Cop with $11,000,000

As you can see, bad reviews combined with Coraline killed it.
Mission accomplished.
Now, why the heck is Paul Blart still up there o_O

I avoid all remakes simply because far too many of them suck. It's too much pressure really. If you have seen and enjoyed the original then your mind will struggle with a re-creation.

To me Peter Sellers was a genius and master. Steve Martin is nowhere near as talented as him. To call this a "Pink Panther" movie makes no sense to me. The first Pink Panther (with Martin) was awful in my opinion. I did not find the comedy funny in any way and the film was just off. It was clear to me that the producers were trying to shift the audience to the new generation much like Star Wars did. The Steve Martin versions are geared towards kids and young teens while the original Sellers versions were adult films often with intelligent plots. The first three or 4 Panther films were much like a toned down James Bond film with a lot more gags. The stories were complex and the mysteries were well thought out.

The Martin offering had very little of this. Instead it wet for a shallow plot with generic and bland slapstick. Most comedy especially family comedy is incredibly bland and boring these days.

I will not be seeing this film. I couldn't even sit through the first one and the fact that other people patronize this garbage annoys me. There is no incentive in Hollywood to make new original movies anymore. They just keep pumping out the same junk and because a small group get a couple chuckles out of it they feel they have done their job.

It's films like these why I don't even go to the theater anymore.

"Back door eh? Good idea..."
