Don't know how you can compare this or Star Wars with Dogma (the second best religious comedy after Bedazzled(1967)).
One thing The Fifth Element[i] and [i]Star Wars have in common is that neither is science fiction. They are fantasy with gadgets, even epic fantasy in the case of the entire six part Star Wars saga. The characters is Star Wars are not even people, but creatures that look a lot like people, and act a lot like people in a galaxy long ago and far away, too far and long to be humans. The so-called science is The Fifth Element is a bunch of quasi-religious magical nonsense that resembles the pseudo-science of Aristotle, that set us back a millennium or so until real chemistry and physics based on experiment not mere philosophical rumination could emerge. I like The Fifth Element as entertainment, just like Beetlejuice that also has little of value to say but is immensely entertaining. But it is not science fiction. (TCM does not even recognize the term, it's "sci-fi" showings are listed as "horror" which is even worse.)
