This isn't masterpiece by any means, but by God it is a golden example of '80s trash films, specifically of the Cannon era. This film is simply fun with an awesome soundtrack.
For shame, IMDB voters, for shame.
4.7 it's too generous with this piece of 80's garbage, the real rate should be between 2-3!! lame script, pathetic performances (special mention for the kid, my god!!) zero action, zero tension... I love simple stories but this it's just plain bad and stupid, in the 80's was a lame movie and now it's just laughable and moronic...

I think this movie is very underrated. It's a fun movie with a touching story, a catchy soundtrack and nice action.
I think most people nowadays take movies too seriously. Too many cynics in the world.
The cheesiest thing about the movie, to me, was the fact the movie portrayed arm-wrestling as a legit sport (although it could really be, I have no idea). Just years later I kind of chuckle at it.
The rest of the movie is rather heartwarming. Of course I'm a bit biased because my single Dad took me to it back in the day, so even though our relationship isn't strained like those in the movie, I could identify with it a bit.
It is actually one of Stallone's better movies, (Cobra anyone?).
Personally think if Hawk had participated in some other "sport", then people wouldn't have given it such a hard time.
At the same time I really enjoy the arm-wrestling subplot. It's fun, it's cheesy, and you kind of want to cheer like you did for Rocky.
I love this movie, an 80's classic IMO.
