If they every made another Dirty Harry movie...
and Clint Eastwood wasn't casted as Harry (Obvious reasons) who would you cast as Harry.
I would go with Hugh Jackman.

Clint Eastwood. PERIOD!
-Did you hear that?
-Yep. It's a dikfer.
-What's a dikfer?
-To pee with!
This is one of those films in Hollywood that simply cannot be remade. To me, only Eastwood could have pulled this off. Like with Norman Bates character, Gus Van Sant made a mistake of remaking Psycho with Vince Vaughn as well as with Steve Martin in the remake of the Pink Panther movies. Nothing against Vince Vaughn or Steve Martin, but they aren't Tony Perkins or Peter Sellers. Some films should not be touched. Just my opinion.
shareI am in agreement some films should simply never be remade, Dirty Harry is one of those films.
Clint Eastwood was simply untouchable in the role, any remake would be a crying shame.
Shut Up Dave!
I love DH, creepy handheld cinematography, haunting groovy score, macho cliches, overly red blood, all great. Yet only great because its from a different period, its message today is crude and emotionally biased.

If the idiot powers that be remade Dirty Harry they'd first change the name of our favorite cop to something lame and metrosexual like Dirty Tyler. Dirty Tyler would be more snarky than menacing, and his best friend would be Sarah Jessica Parker.
shareHugo Weaving

In a way, there were a few 'unofficial' sequels...Bloodwork basically seems like a Dirty harry movie to me, for one.
shareLethal Weapon was a Dirty Harry Ripoff. Cop with a dead wife. Cop who doesn't know why he's still doing it. Cop who apparently doesn't care if he lives or die. You've gotta ask yourself, punk, am I talking about Harry Callahan, or Martin Riggs?
shareWhat if Hugo Weaving were cast as Dirty Harry ??
(Scene in the police interrogation room) - - -
Mr. Anderson (aka Nemo): "You don't scare me with all this Gestapo crap! Let me tell you the deal I'm gonna get. First, I give you the FINGER (raises finger), and then YOU give me my phone call!"
Hugo Weaving-Harry: BLAM! "Hmmm, I feel 'lucky' today ! ! !"
end of movie.

Clint IS Dirty Harry. No one can be cast as Harry Callahan. Any attempt to replace him would be met with utter outrage
shareI hope to god they dont remake this. I know that's not the topic, but the way Hollywood is remaking movies nowadays, it wouldnt surprise me if they decided to "reboot" or remake altogether, which would be a sin.
My idea is to have two different actors play Harry, Clint Eastwood and Hugh Jackman. I actually wrote a story outline for this about two years ago.
In short, Present day: A series of vile child murders has an eastern US city on edge. The killings are exactly the same as a series of murders that occured in mid 70's San Francisco. Investigators from the new city pay a visit on a now retired Inspector Callahan. They ask for his input. He initially scoffs at the idea because of how many years have past and sends them on their way. Looking at the material that was left. Harry is drawn back in time to the hellish killings that went unsolved and unavenged. The camera zooms in on Eastwood's eyes slowly they morph into those of Jackman in 70's San Fran. He's in the middle of a situation that he handles in classic Harry style. The bulk of the movie is set in this time period and concludes with a fight between Harry and the killer. The punk escapes but a dazed Callahan get's a single shot off that marks the killer for life. As he fades in and out of consciousness his eyes again morph back to the present day Harry. At that point Harry see's something on a tv report that reveals the killer shocking identity to Harry. He goes to goes to a trunk in his bedroom and takes out something that he hasn't used in years, His 44 Magnum. he's ready to end this horror once and for all.
I know to some the thought of anyone playing Harry other than Clint is blasphemous. But watch Hugh Jackman play Wolverine. At this point this is the only way I see this working. For me the last time Clint looked like he could play Harry solo was in Space Cowboys.
OPENING in 2013 : Hugh Jackman IS 'Dirty Harvey' !!!!
Will Farrell or John C. Reilly
Duane Johnson if you want to go in a different way.
Hilary Swank or Queen Latifah if you want to go in an entirely different way.
