Your Favourite Song About Murder

Inspired by fourlemons post about songs that make you cry, I thought, people cry when someone is murdered, so how about listing your favourite song about murder. I know it's a stretch but go with it.

People like to rag on rap music for being violent, but country artists can be just as violent, maybe with a bit more harmony.

My favourite is Buried Treasure by Kenny Rogers:

(Sidebar, I had a velour sweater like that too - they were super comfy).

And your favourite?

Serenity In Murder by Slayer

Murder ballads are a staple of the Bluegrass genre of which I'm a big fan, so it's kinda hard to choose!

I'll go with "Long Black Veil"

Tons of folks(including myself) have covered this tune over the years, here's the Pizza Tapes version...

That's a great song. I'm partial to the Johnny Cash's version but that version is pretty sweet too.

reply

I would say the Cash version is actually my favorite too, but posted that one for the benefit of fans of Tony and/or Jerry who might not know that such a collab exists!

reply

I don't know if I have a favourite. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bohemian Rhapsody, or Goodbye Earl.

Personally, the theatre kid in me would probably say The Cell Block Tango from Chicago, or Killing Spree from American Psycho. (Yeah....they made a musical out of American Psycho)

reply

Fourlemons was programmed to mention Goodbye Earl but she broke programming and went off on some bird tangent.

reply

Lol....that's what happens when one isn't a bot.

reply

I don't believe you're actually a bot. I planted several inaccuracies in my accordion OP and all you could tell me was you don't know how to play the accordion because you wear velour. A real computer would have caught the errors.

reply

Whatever you do, do not do a search of parkerbot on Perplexity.

That's like telling a kid not to stick a candy bar up its nose.

You're either a NASA assistant or a spider? It's probably because it's about 4 to 5 hours from when I want to get in bed and the brain is starting to shut down for the day, but what'chu talking 'bout Willis?

reply

Uhm, number one, what kid sticks a candy bar up their nose?

And number two. I said number two. He he.

Butthead mode disengaged.

Did you hear the sounds my brother captured - it's quite amazing:

He always did consider himself hot stuff. He can play the accordion by the way.

Never really thought about songs regarding murder, but since you brought it up, the song called Hazard by Richard Marx

It is a beautiful song. It is somewhat vague, but after watching the video I think the sheriff did it.

reply

That was terrifying. 😳 I had to look to see what thread we were currently in since we've been jumping around all day. That sounded somewhat fitting for songs about murder.

It definitely ain't Hall and Oates.

Cell Block Tango a great choice!

Down By The River.

Beat me to it! Neil Young
