I'm tired of buying DVDs (and even Blu-Rays and VHS for that matter).

I have around 1000 literally and it is TOO much. Soon, I will watch and obtain my favorite movies online if they're not available on Amazon Prime or NetFlix etc, even if they are among my all time favorite movies, not to mention some of them are barely available.

I have been buying DVDs for nearly 20 years and feel I've had enough. Is that alright?

Cheers. And from April or so no DVD buying from me.

reply

Sell them to KOWALSKI 😉

reply

As a matter of fact, at the moment, I literally have NO plans on selling them, just to cease the purchasing process and watch more films online.

reply

I gave all my DVD collections to my friends around 12 years ago. Never purchased one ever since.

reply

streaming is now

reply

A man who is tired of buying DVDs and Blu-rays is tired of life !

reply

WORD!

reply

Yep. Sounds like a plan to me.

😎

reply

It is pointless, I havnt bought a DVD for a few years now.

reply

Also, in your opinion, is it worth going out of your way to buy expensive say DVDs if they are the only version that are UNCUT, or can I stick with edited censorship-oriented versions in that case?

And what if such or some films are unavailable on YouTube, NetFlix, Amazon Prime or anywhere online but are available to buy on DVD, can I just leave it at that?

reply

I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a DVD these days, im happy with with watching on Netflix or Amazon, or if you can't find a film hd cinema has everything within reason- so a friend told me😉, then watching extras on YouTube etc and reading extra info on here and imdb reviews.

reply

reply

Yeah shoot away, I gave all my dvds away apart from my 3 favourite box sets if you name them we can haggle.

reply

Out of interest have a guess on one of my box sets see how close you get

reply

game of thrones

reply

No iv never watched an episode.

Some clues

Box set 1, famous American sitcom

Box set 2, famous british sitcom

Box set 3, British crime series

reply

me neither

reply

clueless on all things British but the american one is The Simpsons

reply

Na it's friends love that show

reply

That sounds like a very low place to be in. I recommend purchasing some movies in VHS format to get you back in the swing of things.

reply

YEAH,YEAH,YEAH ... YOU PIECES SON OF A BITCH.📼

reply

LMAO. I know, I know.

I’m going to that place where they found it this weekend.

reply

HUNTING WITH A GROWN UP SOUNDS AMAZING...OF COURSE THEN THERE WOULD BE BLOODY FISTFIGHTS OVER TAPES.🤔

reply

Betamax or it's not worth it.

reply

That’s for when your really ready to get crazy. There are even those out there who go full laser disc, but that’s pretty extreme.

reply

To be honest I can't recall the last time I saw a working Betamax player. Gotta be 20 years.

reply

Yep, it’s been a long time for me too. I think we had one a while when I was a kid, but we switched to VHS at some point.

reply

NO!...BAD THEMAN18...BAD!

BUT IF YOURE GONNA BE BAD..YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE REAL BAD AND GIVE ME YOUR MEDIA.

reply

Well, after 20 years, it can only go so far. Too much money spendings and fewer places at home.

reply

IM CURRENTLY AROUND 25 YEARS INTO THIS COLLECTION AND NEARING 30,000 TITLES.🙂

reply

You must have a REALLY big house then.

reply

NO...NOT REALLY...THREE BEDRROM,TWO BATH...UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO I HAD THE WHOLE THING LINING THE WALLS OF THE WIFE AND I'S BEDROOM...ITS CURRENTLY IN BOXES...LUCKILY I HAVE A DUTCH STYLE BARN(3 CAR)...CURRENTLY CONVERTING THE ATTIC INTO A CINEMA LIBRARY.

reply

Do you ever liquidate titles that you would never watch?

reply

I HAVE LEGIT OCD...SO...NOPE.

reply

I like having the film in a tangible form. And streaming can always be cut off. At the very least, I want hard copies of my favorites on hand.

reply

Me too but there is always a limit.

Also, I wanted to make a separate thread on Censorship, but I also wanted to add that a lot of movies I own, although some of which have full uncut versions that are almost IMPOSSIBLE to find, and really expensive if they could, are censored in some or other ways. For the most part, however, can I live with having films that are censored by say over or under 5 minutes to remove certain scenes of sex and/or violence?

In some cases, its actually not that big a deal. But then in others. It depends...

reply

Seeing as I've got ever-growing shelves of DVDs, I understand your point. :)

reply

In all my 18+ years of movie buying and collecting, with minor exceptions when I went to stores etc, I only really ever sold ONE DVD online. And very few I gave to rental stores here and there. Which only amounts to AT MOST 5%, and 95% was me buying stuff.

reply

YOU NEED A DEDICATED MEDIA LIBRARY ROOM...FLOOR TO CEILING SHELVING AND A VIDEO STORE AESTHETIC...I AM CURRENTLY CONVERTING MY 3 CAR DUTCH STYLE BARN'S ATTIC INTO JUST SUCH A PLACE.

reply

I've got a feeling it'll come to that! :)
