Loving your pet....

I have such an amazingly intense love for my cat Boots and I know I will never feel that way with any person/ human in my life. Our bond with each other is indescribable. Does anyone feel the same way about their pet?

reply

Do you call him Boots because he's a puss in boots?

reply

She's actually a girl and that was her name the shelter gave her before I adopted her so I didn't want to change it. She is an orange tabby with blue green eyes; she's stunning! We also have an amazing connection. I love her beyond words!!!!!

reply

I'm not an animal person. I'm not a people person either though.

reply

I think if you got a dog or a cat of your own, it will change your mind. Animals provide a love that humans can't. I'm not much of a people person either.

reply

completely agree:)

reply

I don't know. I've been attacked by many animals. Watch out for those goldfish.

reply

It is not that common that cats attack you. You have to really piss them off first.

reply

Female orange cats are rare - most are male.

reply

Interesting.

reply

That's what my vet told me too. :)

reply

Me and my dog - we read each others minds.

reply

I did that with my friends dog once, I was on acid at the time though.

I watch a lot of animal videos on YouTube. I've never had a pet on my own. Growing up we had a pug, and later adopted a kitten born in our neighborhood by a stray. Our pug died relatively young (8 years old) due to some condition that I've forgotten the name of. But that's years ago. I recently searched for old pug videos (not videos that are old, pugs that are old) and it made me cry.

Thanks for the videos. I will check them out!! :)

I love Cinnabon, the orange kitty. It's also been interesting to watch the owner's evolution from indifference to cats to a real cat guy.

Dodo site is the best for variety. It has turned my mind around pit bulls. They can be cuddle bugs! I also love watching pet pigs and rescued farm animals (cows and donkeys are so sweet, even chickens can be affectionate)! I never knew rats could be such great pets. And I am so grateful towards people who operate sanctuaries like SaveaFox!

reply

I love watching the "dog reunited with person" videos, like when a soldier returns home after a long deployment or a student comes home from college. Very sweet.

I think pet lovey-dovey people are crazy. For me it's a clear sign that the human race has become seriously dysfunctional. Of course it may well be that the human race has always been seriously dysfunctional.

reply

And it sounds like you simply never had a pet and connected to it.

reply

Why would I want to ? Human beings are supposed to find love and companionship with other human beings. Resorting to pets is a failure.

reply

Says who?

reply

Are you married or do you have any children????

reply

I am married and we don't have any children.

reply

Wow. That’s crazy that you have a more intense love for your cat than your spouse.

reply

Probably sex is better 😁

reply

I love my husband but people can be complicated at times.

reply

Well, if you do ever happen to have children I think your views will change for the better.

reply

I wish I could feel the sort of unconditional love and uncritical acceptance towards another human as I feel towards my pets, but relations between humans are always complex and fraught with difficulties. Even parents who think they love and accept their children unconditionally and uncritically are layering the relationship with unrealistic expectations, and the helpless adoring infant becomes a human with a mind of its own, and the relationship becomes as complex as any.

So I just value the relationships I have for animals as a good thing in itself. it doesn't affect my relationship with other humans one way or the other, and the more love in the world the better.

My wife and I have a hound/ rottweiler mix and his name is Abel. Our kids are grown and moved out. Abel helps us with the "empty nest" He's a good dog and we love him dearly.

reply

I 100% agree with you Otter. Relationships with humans are very complicated. Relationships with your pets is all about love and nothing else.

reply

Well said, Otter.

I don't animals have more value than humans. However, I had a boxer that was intuitive, conscientious, and exceedingly friendly (not anthropomorphizing, seriously*) which elevated his humanity value above many people I have met. His death felt like losing a son.

*He would adjust his play style to accommodate his blind dog friend and even stop her from running into things. He would gravitate to people who were sad or going through something and sit with them without being called. He had a huge vocabulary and never needed a leash. With new people he would slowly establish touching behavior before leaning his head on their shoulder or testing a lap. etc etc etc.

I have a dog I take care of...but after 4 years I still can't stand him.

I don't think he likes me either.

I love cats...I always have. Big fluffy, furry cats.

reply

I've had dogs and cats my whole life but when my current dogs tenure is up, I'm sticking with cats. They are more wonderfuller!! ;)
