[EDIT] Thanks everyone - over 200 suggestions for child friendly films.

Since lockdown started my daughter (nearly 6) and I have waded through: -
8 Harry Potter films
3 Narnia films
3 Wizard of Oz films
2 Mary Poppins films
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Plus, countless Disney cartoons

Any suggestions? Thanks everyone.

Hoodwinked! (2005). This movie never got much mention because the CGI wasn't as polished as that of the big budget films. I hadn't heard of it until I saw it being played on a TV in the video section of a store. After seeing this I ended up purchasing the DVD.

It's an updated version of "Little Red Riding Hood" played out as a police procedural drama concerning stolen candy recipes. There are jokes for both children and adults, so it can be enjoyed by all ages.

I personally thought it was hilarious, but that's just my opinion.

Many thanks for the suggestion

You're welcome.

October Sky

Based on true story
STEM focused
Some violence, but no more than Harry Potter films

She might be a little young for this.

reply

Yes, save it for when she is 10 - 12.

Is your daughter fond of sensitive to animals? If she is, there are a few that have been suggested I'd pass on: Babe and Bambi. There may have been a couple others. I'd pass on Old Yeller and The Yearling, too.

Has she seen the Shirley Temple movies? The Little Princess is a good one to start with. (It may be the best one.)

To Kill A Mockingbird. I saw that when I was about her age and although I didn't understand it all then, I enjoyed it.

The Black Stallion is a beautiful movie, for kids and adults.

You've got a ton of fine recommendations here!

Yes, I’m keen to introduce her to a few classics. I don’t want her to grow up with the mentality that anything older than 5 seconds ago is rubbish. Over a hundred film suggestions now, which should keep us going for a while.

“To Kill A Mockingbird” not for her age. Very adult theme. Here’s the Parent’s Guide:

Not for a child not quite 6. Adult theme. Here’s the Parent’s Guide. I would never permit a child that young to watch it.

Christmas Story
Charlie Brown Christmas.

I watch them every year around Christmas.

The Wizard of Oz was great too. I've seen it many times.

reply

I shall try and introduce her to the delights of Charlie Brown, thanks.

reply

Make sure it's made before 2015.

reply

I will, lol.

A couple I just thought of: -

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase 2019
Brave Little Toaster 1987

I shall add them to the list, thanks.

I'd suggest stuff I saw as a kid but half of them gave me nightmares!
Different times😦

My daughter loves Return to Oz (I recently introduced her to it). We watched Neverending Story the other evening. The others are on our list.

reply

It terrified me lol. All those heads in the cases 😭 I was only 4 at the time but I remember vividly climbing onto my mum and crying through the rest of the film and all the way home! I didn't watch it again for about 30 years and that part still freaked me out 💩

reply

She's nearly 6 and understands that films aren't real. I can imagine how traumatic it might be for a 4 year old though.

I hope you'll make a follow-up post about which ones your daughter really liked. You've got us all hooked on this endeavour now! 😉
