Best one season shows.

What are your favourite shows that for whatever reason only ran for one season?

I’d say Firefly, which is an obvious answer, as well as
Clone High.

Kolchak - The Night Stalker was a classic.
One of the original ghost, monster alien TV shows.

It was the 70's how didn't this make it?

reply

I used to love this show! It had so much drive to it, especially the scenes where he would pound out the stories on the keys of his manual typewriter !

reply

I agree.

Darren McGavin was also the perfect choice for this role.

reply

He was DA BOMB!! and yes, so perfect.

reply

He really was.

That kind of dis-shoveled way he had and being a bit of a smart a**.
Those facial expressions were priceless.
Let's not forget the hat. Loved that damn hat.

godewey- HOW did I forget Kolchak, the Night Stalker? One of my favorite shows as a kid. My sisters and I never missed it. We were so depressed when it got yanked off the air!

I do think the problem was that they were running out of monsters for Kolchak to chase. Some of them got too far out and almost cartoon like, like the robot R.I.N.G. or the headless guy on the motorcycle. It probably would've been better to do a story arc where Carl was investigating the same "monster" or strange occurrence for three or more episodes. That way they wouldn't have to come up with a new one every week.

reply

Yeah, I also think they could have went deeper.
.
A show like Supernatural is still going after 13 seasons.
It's basically the same type of show. Hunting demons and monsters.
Difference is each season they have at least one main story going on in the background
and in between they throw in monsters, ghosts and such.

Threshold (2005) was a pretty good sci-fi/alien. Plus Carla Gugino was in it.

Horace and Pete

John Doe.

reply

Yes.

reply

It was a fairly good crime drama wonder why it lasted only one season

reply

Never seen it personally. I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Wolf Hall, I Claudius, all BBC productions, all based on books.

Wolf Hall and Jonathan Strange may get second seasons if and when the next books are written and if they can get the same cast/directors back, but none are due at the time of writing.

Space: Above and Beyond was also great, I've not seen it since the 90's so don't know how well its aged though.

reply

I have vague recollections of Space: Above and beyond.
I don’t remember it well enough to recall any specific plots of characters, but I remember it looked cool from a kids perspective lol.

I’ve considered watching Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, I’ve seen it on my VOD menu and almost gave it a watch, but never have.
I’ll check it out next time I don’t know what to watch.

reply

It was kinda like Starship Troopers! :)
