Best one season shows.

What are your favourite shows that for whatever reason only ran for one season?

I’d say Firefly, which is an obvious answer, as well as
Clone High.

reply

Logan's Run
It could have been great.
It was on Monday's up against Monday Night Football. :(

reply

Never heard of that
But i loved the movie

reply

I love the movie too.

It was only 14 or 15 episodes I think.
A lot of it was life on the outside of the city of domes.

It was really good.
Sucks it got such a raw deal.

reply

I wasn’t aware that was a series either. Coincidently, I just rewatched the movie on cable last night.

reply

It's actually online on a website that somebody turned me onto.

It's obviously dated but if you look at the ratings it's rated a little better than the movie.
Which means nothing other than it was good.

reply

Alien nation and Firefly are already mentioned.I'll add these brilliant but cancelled shows as well.

John Doe
The Visitor
Brisco County jr
Touching evil
Max headroom

reply

OMG!! Briscoe was amazing!!! I always imagined that Briscoe and the Lord ( forgot his name) made it out of their predicament in that final show. I imagined that the Professor invented a
bullet proof vest and each had one on
Loved Headroom also.So ahead of its time. Damn these were great.

Also I liked Jericho.

reply

Jericho was great
Still a bit pissed that it ended
I wanted a couple more seasons out of that one

reply

Invasion- What a horrible way to end it

Heartland- Only 10 episodes starred Brian Keith.
Loved this show.

reply

I agree about Invasion, great show and so mean to end it on a cliffhanger.

That reminded me about two other shows that were good and ended with cliffhangers, only to be cancelled. "Thanks" ABC! 'No Ordinary Family' and 'Forever'. Both series started out rather slow. But they developed into something interesting, only to get the ax in favor of endless "reality" crap.

reply

You remember this?

That ending still haunts me.
At least come back for 1 season to finish it up. I was so disappointed and angry.
Still am apparently. lol

I'll never understand how networks choose what to keep and cancel. Especially in favor of the fake reality crap.
I only watch two network shows now. Both are stupid comedies. So if they cancel them it really doesn't matter.
One is about ready to go.

reply

godewey- you watch two stupid comedies? I wonder if they are the same ones I watch.

'Big Bang Theory' started out with a bang, but it's going out with a fizzle. It should have ended a long time ago. I watch it now out of curiosity, not for the laughs. The new show is 'Young Sheldon'. it's funny, at least it's different. But I'm not holding my breath. if I really get to like it, it will be cancelled!

So many shows are just not given a chance. That's why I haven't invested much time in new hour long shows. They get cancelled so fast.

reply

Never watched either of those. Although I know a dear friend that swears by Big Bang.

I watch Last Man on Earth and The Mick. Which are both basically juvenile humor.
Apparently I'm 12 when it comes to some comedy that I like so it works out well for me.
Not high-brow humor like Andy Griffith.

This reminded of Pushing Daisies which lasted 2 seasons that a friend of mine was just
furious when they cancelled it and I watched and Body of Proof with Dana Delaney that I thought
was actually good until It got cancelled.

I'm with you. I'm done with network shows. Especially dramas.

reply

godewey- "12 when it comes to some comedy"? Don't sell yourself short. I still like Bugs Bunny cartoons! lol Actually Daffy and Sylvester are my favorite Looney Tunes characters.

I forgot about 'Body of Proof', another good show that got the ax.

I do NOT understand the networks. They will spend a month or more advertising a new show. They will play ad after ad to try and entice viewers. But then when you watch it, they give it a short time before they yank it off the air.

reply

I hear you. I love me some Daffy Duck too. Don't even get me started on Foghorn Leghorn or
Marvin the Martian.

I don't get it either.
Now days it's all done by analytics and money.
The human factor seems to have been eliminated.

It seems that even if they do yank it after a year they at least got a year's worth of viewing by us.
To them that's good enough.

reply

A year's worth of viewing, yeah I guess they don't care if viewers actually LIKE a show. Apparently for a show to get a good long run it has to have "CSI" or "Law and Order" in the title. Just how MANY versions of those shows can they crank out?

Foghorn Leghorn? I almost forgot about him. I love his ongoing feud with the dog. One cartoon cracks me up totally. It was the one where little Chester Chicken hawk tries to drag the dog away thinking that he is a chicken.

He explains that he is a DOG, "but I know where there's a big fat slob of a rooster." LOL
That line kills me every time. I must be less than 12 mentally!

reply

I watched one of those shows , SVU maybe, for a while then stopped.
I liked it but it just got to be the same thing every week.
Exactly, how many variations can they make. Different cities but the same stuff every week.

Chester Chiken hawk. LOL. I love those cartoons. Reminded me of these.

Less than 12 mentally? Yessss!
Welcome to my world.

reply

godewey- I clicked on those two links you provided to Looney Tunes.

As soon as I saw the title of the first one, "I Will Call Him George", well...I don't know if it's funny or tragic, I started to recite the dialogue before I watched it.

I haven't seen that cartoon in years and I still remembered it.

reply

Same here. It's been etched in our minds.

Let's call it tragically funny.

This is another one that I remembered.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVNHcob3oJg

reply

I am so immature or in my second childhood! LOL

I love Chester and Spike.

"You wanna go beat up a cat?" "You know where is it a cat?" And Sylvester singing is icing on the cake.

So funny, but none of my cats have ever reacted to a dog like Sylvester does. They just hiss and attack if provoked. Sylvester was a real "pussy".

That stuff just gets me every time.

reply

I'm both so at least I'm in good company.

Sylvester really was a pussy wasn't he. lol

Do you remember these little boys?
"beep-beep zip dang:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69LBKtWYff8

reply

Ha! I forgot all about that one. But now I remember it.

The one boy says that sometimes he feels like he is the Roadrunner. When we were kids, my youngest sister did a great Road Runner impression. We'd always ask her to do it.

One of my favorites is the dog Marc Anthony who adopts a little kitten. He tries to pass it off to his owner as a wind up toy or a powder puff.

Gee, you think I'd have outgrown Looney Tunes by now! (guess not)

reply

It's always nice to have somebody in the family who can do
Roadrunner impressions.
You never know when you'll need it.

I remember that one. That big dog hugging that little kitten. lol

That's why they're the best.
We can still laugh at them now just like we did when we were kids.
A lifetime of enjoyment.

reply

When you said Heartland, at first I thought of the long running Canadian series. Which I find unwatchable, but is somehow about to start shooting it’s 12th season.

reply

Isn't that always the case? 12 seasons. Really? Who is actually watching this.

This one took place in Nebraska I think. They did a whole episode on the premise that
Johnny Carson was coming to the town or that was part of it or something.
It's been awhile but I remember LMAO.

reply

I was thinking the same thing.

reply

Invasion and Threshold 2005-06.

reply

I remember Threshold.
I didn't watch but I remember it.

Did you watch Invasion too?

reply

I thought Threshold may have been the better of two. This takes me back to when I watched TV shows on a weekly basis. Those days are over.

reply

I'm with you there.

I can't do it anymore.
Mostly because I can't remember week to week anymore.

reply

My So-Called Life

reply

Claire Danes right?

reply

Yes, the show was about her character’s so-called life. Also starred Jared Leto, in one of his first roles.

reply

Not his best role.

Come, break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

reply

I remember it,my daughter loved it.
It was Dawson's creek but better.

reply

I only saw one or two episodes of Dawson’s Creek but I remember thinking that the characters were way too precocious. They talked like thirtysomethings. MSCL was a lot more authentic. Of course, DC had quite a run and MSCL was canned after a single abbreviated season, so what do I know?

reply

When Things Were Rotten

Police Squad

Both were goofy comedies that were hysterical.

Police Squad went on to become the Naked Gun series.
When Things Were Rotten was the same type of humor in Robin Hood Times.

Miss those days.

reply

Police squad is a great choice.
I’m not familiar with When things were rotten, but I’ll look into it.

reply

Two scenes I remember with WTWR.

Let's have a toast.- They turn around and toast pops out of the toaster.

Let's shake on it.- They don't shake hands they literally start shaking their whole bodies.

How could anybody not love that. I mean seriously.

reply

That’s awesome. I’ll definitely check that out.
Madcap silliness like that is a lost art.
Angie Tribeca does a good job of that sort of humour for a modern show, but it’s few and far between.

reply

I really like that show.

The first time I watched it I thought of Police Squad.
It's really well done.

reply

Open All Night

Which was the American version of a British show.
Another travesty when it was cancelled.

reply

Fawlty Towers

reply

I believe that was two six episode seasons, actually.

reply

Oops my bad. Oh well I still love it.

reply

Of course! It’s a classic.

reply

I know..... I'm OLD! This was a fun show!

The Second Hundred Years (tv show): Prospector Luke Carpenter was frozen in suspended animation in the year 1900 while panning for gold in Alaska. He was successfully thawed and returned home perfectly preserved at 33 years .

Cast: Monte Markham (Ken Carpenter / ... 26 episodes, 1967-1968), , Arthur O'Connell (Edwin Carpenter 26 episodes, 1967-1968),

I absolutely loved this show. Karen Black also was a regular in it.

reply

Oh I had forgotten about that show until recently. I was watching some episodes of Hogan's Heroes on youtube. One episode had Monte Markham in it. I suddenly remembered 'The Second Hundred Years'. I found a few episodes on youtube.

Yeah, I'm closing in on my "second hundred years".

reply

I also checked it out on Youtube. I had such a crush on Monte Markham when I was a girl. He was so rugged as Luke Carpenter!

reply

Yeah, he was awfully hot! If you still have a crush on him, there are a few movies still on youtube that he stars in , 'Death Takes a Holiday' from 1971. There's also "Ginger in the Morning'. That one isn't very good, but there IS a long scene of him shirtless!

reply

I have Ginger in the Morning on DVD. I agree that it isn't a very good movie. I get a sleaze vibe from him.....I mean, why go after Sissy? The two had nothing in common, and she was a bit younger than him.
I loved Death Takes a Holiday. I haven't seen that in years. I must check that out! Thanks.

reply

Well yes, she WAS a bit younger. I guess that was the point. LOL In the beginning of the movie it's revealed that he is divorced and lonely, it's the holidays, he hasn't had a date in a while and he is in need of...you know!

I'd like to think that even after he took her in, he realized that they had nothing in common. Ginger's boyfriend comes looking for her and his child. They leave together and Monte's character finds a woman his own age.
