I can't help it but I usually envision what each poster looks like based on their words.
I think the few people who aren't white that like these films aren't actually bothered by it. They may not like some racial jokes/lack of diversity, but that doesn't matter. They still like the film itself. Anyone can like anything they want to
Well, she's still an American. She doesn't live in Asia
Unpopular opinion here but I thought he overreacted in suing them over the prosthetics. Apparently it was illegal but honestly I don't see anything morally wrong with it. He gets mad that the ending of BTTF is about "money" but then sues them? Does he care about money or not? Lol. Seems a bit hypocritical. He complained that they didn't use the prosthetics for Jennifer, but he was a much more central character so honestly the action was understandable. I mean yes it is kind of a jerk move when you think about it but at the end of the day he's the one who started acting like a jerk. Why would you sign onto a film and later disagree about the script? Also, I'm pretty sure they actually did receive permission to use the archive footage, just not the face molds. Correct me if I'm wrong
Gotcha. I'm not surprised but I assumed this one was trolling by previous comments, just wanted to share my two cents on the matter
This
Dumb as it may sound, my dad told me it wasn't very funny or worth watching, and ever since then I haven't had a desire to watch it. I know I don't have to listen to everything my parents tell me but it's hard not to feel an influence, and he's usually right about movies
Road trip theme is just a common trope that can be used for any genre. It's too vague to attach to something specifically
I'm aware no one called it that, I put direct copy in quotes because the reply said there were movies it copied from, so I was saying nothing was really directly copied from it in order to consider as copying. Even if the makers themselves say that it was copied, I'm not seeing the similarities (I may not have watched it but I've seen many clips)
Doesn't it go that way for a lot of actors? Many of them are difficult to work with but that's overlooked due to their talent. Now, lack of talent is a different story.
As for Glover himself, it actually seems like he had a lot of charisma before BTTF. Seriously, I saw old clips of him and something changed in between those timeframes
I know this post is a joke but it is something that people genuinely complain about. I think it just reflects Hughes' background and concentration on class rather than racial issues. Would I have liked to see more diversity in his movies? Sure, but so what? I can't get mad about it. That wouldn't be realistic anyways. Small, predominately white towns are still very common. Most cities in America in the 80s would've been predominately white.
I'd take silly teen flicks from the 80s over what the MCU has to offer any day. Watching shithead teens is entertaining, but I understand if you're looking for something more realistic
I don't think they aged badly for the most part, aside from a few things of course that I don't necessarily disapprove of because they're now considered socially unacceptable, but because I personally find them distasteful
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I know plenty of teens still like to watch John Hughes movies. Maybe not a whole lot, but they're out there. The angsty dialogue can still resonate with a lot of viewers. Not in every single way but he was a good writer. I've actually grown to appreciate him more that he just did what he wanted
Maybe more interesting for you. They weren't going for something realistic or gritty in a family friendly sci-fi film
I agree it isn't funny, it's a sad but true fact.
Are you talking about me personally? I'm not obese myself but I know every time I go out in a public place, I'm most likely going to see more than one obese/overweight person . That's a real issue and not a good thing. That's good for you and your neighborhood, but not realistic. Maybe it's just worse in my city
That's the whole point. It's clearly a homage to old westerns
Def not a lie. You're limiting your experience by comparing your neighborhood to the rest of the country. More than half the country is obese or overweight. It's a real problem. Nothing anti-American about it. Wouldn't you actually consider it patriotic to promote a more healthy lifestyle? This means calling out the issue of people consuming unhealthy foods and living inactive lifestyles.
I like Steve Martin, and I like John Candy, but it doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Then again, I also like John Hughes so maybe I'm wrong
I'm pretty sure Billy Bob has it
It's a actually a perfectly reasonable argument because um, news flash, a book can also be just as confusing to a reader as watching a show or movie can. That's like saying the book should be logical to someone who's never seen the movie version. If you have a hard time understanding it, then that's a personal problem.
Actually you did make a mistake. I don't deny the fact about the percentage of black people but that isn't what you were arguing was it? You said it would be impossible that there would be black people in a period piece when, as I already explained to you, those very minor roles existed in the original book written in the 1800s, not in modern day, so they are merely translating the book to film. Kind of ironic that you're trying to argue your logic with facts but ignoring the historical context I'm giving you. Then again you go on to complain about the lack of Asians and Hispanics so now I think it's safe to assume you're incapable of understanding very simple things. Does it really bother you that much to have a black person stand in a room and say a few lines with very little screen time? If so, then maybe reevaluate what you watch.
You don't know how 2020 teenagers talk. I was a teenager in 2020, and I'm safely going to assume you were not. Stop generalizing an age group,we don't all talk the same. By saying she's 200 years ahead of her time you're essentially saying the book is because most of her dialogue is taken from the source material. That's also kind of the point, her character is supposed to be a bit crude and crass compared to a more lady like society.
I honestly don't care if you like it or not. It just bothers me that your reasons for disliking it are so minor and blown out of proportion
