Not sure about Naz and Freddie, they don't seem like they'd know how to do that.
Robo Picard's synthetic body is a major plot point in S3 though.
In the ST universe the transporter does not kill, but transports the matter (via a matter stream) and reassembles the body afterwards. Technically it's still the same body.
Yes there are episodes in old Trek where characters die and come back, but the robo Picard story was not necessary at all, it did not add anything to Picard's character. It had nothing to do with good story telling, let alone science fiction, but certainly more about disrespecting old Trek and one of its main character.
Remember when a janitor in DSC was cleaning up a room of goo and they called him 'numbnut'? He answered with 'my name is Gene' (as in Gene Roddenberry) only to get "I've already forgotten that" as an answer. Yep, that's Nu-Trek in a nutshell.
The nostalgia factor in S3 was great, the story not so much.
>> MCU is so sad now.
So true. Last good one was SM:NWH.
I think Pattinson is one of the better actors of his generation. It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but he was fine as Batman and Wayne, but IMO the movie itself was mediocre at best.
There's a 4 min trailer for Batman Arkham Origins from a few years ago (it's on Youtube), where Batman's fighting Deathstroke. I think a standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie could have come close to that. One can dream lol.
edit: wording, best -> better
>> .. the primary focus should be on creating the best Superman movie possible
yes, but there's also 'unfinished business' so to speak. I don't even consider myself a fan of the DCEU, but I'd certainly want to see a conclusion to the Cavill-Affleck-Gadot era.
My point is, could good and profitable movies (even the best Superman movie) be made using the current actors? Sure. Is Gunn trying to do that? No.
>> If he does a better job than Znyder..
IMHO his movies are generally better than Snyder's, but we'll see.
>> I hope he can capture the essence of "Richard Donner,"..
I'm not sure if that's even his priority. He tweeted that he'd rather tell stories of lesser-known characters. We can expect more 'band-of-misfits' type of movies because that's the announcement we're all waiting for.
>> No. The films were just terrible.
Not exactly terrible, but they should have been much better, for sure.
And that proves my point: there's no reason for a younger Superman and, hence, no reason for a new actor.
..or instead of two Ezra Millers, they should have brought in Grant Gustin.
I think we agree on the director issue; with a better filmmaker, the DCEU would have been much more successful. Snyder's movies are certainly visually stunning, but that's where it ends because there's always something off or "missing" in the end.
MoS could have been much better, but again, that's not the actors' fault.
Regarding DC and Marvel, they already have a huge fanbase, so any director should certainly make sure to meet expectations and not try to come up with "their version" of things. I would certainly love to see how the DCEU ends, with at least one or more Justice League sequels.
So many characters and worlds were already established, and so many things were done right in the DCEU so far. Change things, sure, fix the problems, but at least keep the actors the fans got used to seeing over the years.
Seeing what James Gunn revealed so far I highly doubt that his "vision" and movies will be so much better anyway. Also, was Superman's/Cavill's age even one of the reasons people didn't watch BvS or Justice League?
Edit: wording
It's not Cavill's fault that the movies underperformed. He's perfect as Superman, and so is Affleck as Batman. The actors weren't the problem... Ezra Miller maybe. The DCEU needed a better director, not a hard reboot.
The problem with Gunn is that he's all about "his vision" and not what the fans want. Guardians, SS, and now another band of misfits?
ST is best enjoyed as a TV show.
Movies are always meant to attract a wider audience, that's why Picard suddenly becomes an action hero and the Borg collective has suddenly a queen.
> It doesn't matter how good the martial artist is if the director can't direct or know how to shoot the fight scene.
Just look at the old Bruce Lee movies; the camera work, zoom in etc. is outdated but Bruce Lee's fight scenes, his kicks and all still look good after all these years.
Just rewatched the bathroom fight scene on youtube; Tom Cruise is not doing any martial arts in that scene? (the Asian guy's obviously a martial artist).
As much as I like the first Matrix movie and Keanu Reeves, it still shows that he's not a martial artist in real life. The scene at the end where he turns to the agents with his leg raised is a good example; it seems forced.
A good example would be Phillip Rhee in Best of the Best; now that guy makes fight scenes look good, esp. the end fight.
Have to disagree. While anyone can lift their leg and kick around, doesn't mean that it would look good on screen. Even JCVD once said that he recorded himself doing kicks and stuff, and rewatched it over and over just to make it look perfect.
Also, Cage has to do a split (his iconic move) on screen that looks real. Can't see Karl Urban doing that without special effects or a stunt guy.
Agreed. Great actor, but I can't see him doing a split.
The Smoke Monster was never explained though. There were Jacob and his brother. Jacob tosses his brother into that glowing cave thing and brother becomes smoke monster. But why exactly? Since electromagnetism doesn't turn someone into a smoke monster, so there were some supernatural things going on, which were never explained.
edit: feel free to correct me if I'm wrong..
Childhood's End
Maybe she didn't:

Just finished the finale, and yeah lol.
That scene at the end, those 2 minutes were better than anything Kurtzman has ever produced under the name Star Trek!
The problem is not Terry Matalas or S3 (which is enjoyable), the problem is Kurtzman is still at the helm of the franchise.
Kurtzman and co have tortured us fans since 2017 with everything they've produced so far; for one, they've brought back so many characters just to kill them off. Picard himself, Q (immortal & omnipotent!), Icheb, Hugh, Data, Maddox, Ro Laren, ...
Thanks but no thanks.
His cameo would have worked much better if he weren't in the trailer.
You can add Dr Strange portal magic to the list.
Compared to what they produce nowadays, esp. under the name 'Star Trek', TNG, and all the other 'old' Trek shows for that matter, are gold.
Currently rewatching ENT.
