Sorry, but this movie deserved all of the Academy Awards that it received. Absolute wonderful movie not just by early 70s standers. This movie has actually held up pretty well over time

Perfect analysis regarding her characters intent on killing the Whammer in The Natural. Once Roy Hobbs strikes out the Whammer on three pitches - notice Barbara Hershey‘s steely eyes shift from looking at the Whammer to directly looking at Roy Hobbs. It’s at this precise moment when she changes her mind to target Roy Hobbs and not The Whammer

Gene Hackman’s character and Barbara Hershey’s character are not supposed to have any chemistry at all - that’s why it works so well.
