Barbara Hershey.

It's interesting to note that Ms. Hershey appeared in two of the best sports flicks ever made, playing VERY different parts in each.

In Hoosiers she's the level headed high school teacher and interim principal. She's Gene Hackman's love interest.

In The Natural she's the demented psychopath intent on murdering the best athlete in each major sport. She intends to kill the Babe Ruth character, The Whammer, until she she's the unknown Robert Redford character strike out The Whammer during a whistle stop. Once Redford confirms he "will be the best who's ever played the game," she pulls the trigger.

Definitely two very different roles.

She likes to take on many different kinds of roles and especially likes those that are challenging. She was quite convincing as a churchgoing housewife who becomes an accidental axe murderer in the 1990 TV movie A Killing in a Small Town.

Great actress. Classy!

A lot of alliteration from anxious anchors placed in powerful posts!

Perfect analysis regarding her characters intent on killing the Whammer in The Natural. Once Roy Hobbs strikes out the Whammer on three pitches - notice Barbara Hershey‘s steely eyes shift from looking at the Whammer to directly looking at Roy Hobbs. It’s at this precise moment when she changes her mind to target Roy Hobbs and not The Whammer
