He calls her a dumb bimbo in the song. People were talking about him because most people probably hadn't seen any other really great filmmakers. Like they spend there life watching jurassic park, back to the future, Bill and Ted. All great movies but not on the level of things like Andrei rublev, 3 colors blue, or pierrot le fou. So when someone slightly rises to that level and is in the mainstream he's considered an incredible genius. Like how everyone gushes at the Beatles Revolver when there was far more experimental stuff happening at the time. It's not a question of quality but of being popular. I'm pretty sure this is the movie that introduced me to rock music in general. The bands on the soundtrack are pretty much all I listened to growing up. Seriously? Jam 100% Lex looks like an uglier version of Greg from Succession. Would you rather watch Gandhi or Tron? Both came out the same time. Biopics are critical darlings that people tend to forget when a few years passes. Only a handful hold the test of time like Amadeus or The Pianist. Barbie on the other hand is a wholly unique visual experience. It's like Speed Racer or Moulin Rouge. It's guaranteed cult status and midnight movie status already. There just desperate to prove themselves intellectuals aren't they? Or there so divorced from film that Nolan is the greatest they know. I mean.. Kubrick, Pasolini, Truffaut, Vilgot Sjöman, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Dziga Vertov, Terrance Malick, Tarkovsky... Nolan is an OK film maker. He's better then most people today but he's far below anything great in the history of cinema. Dark Knight Rises tho... Didn't Gaspar Noe do it first? Yea bullshit. This shit is the Gandhi biopic all over again. Critical darling loved by all at the time of release. Then guess what came out that same year? Tron. Highly regarded shit like this tends to fall to the waist side while more visually innovative stuff like Speed Racer, like Hausu, like Tron, like Barbie become cult classics. The only reason people even GAF about Nolan is because of Heath Ledger's performance in Dark Knight. It's a song about a vapid girl who is raped and abused by Ken. Wtf are you on? The subject matter too. What's more important then the nuke? Nothing. Important events = important movies. Honestly Barbie will probably have a bigger cultural impact. Like Speed Racer did like Scott Pilgrim did like House 1977 did. In 30 years teens and adults won't want to watch a dry boring biopic to chill out. Let me paint an example: Ever see the Gandhi biopic? Oh of course you have.. what's more important then a film about Gandhi? Now ever hear about this little known movie that came out at the same time.. idk was called something like TRON. Nobody right? Because Gandhi was such an incredible movie I don't think anybody has even heard of Tron. One of these clearly had cultural impact the other sorta went away..This is basically how both will be remembered. Nolan is the biggest name in film most people not actually into film know. Not to be a dick but I get the feeling people only like him because of Dark Knight... which people only like because of Heath Ledger's Joker. That and Inception which was ok. It's just the case of people not knowing film so they hype up what they perceive is the most important director. Nobody has heard of Vilgot Sjöman or Krzysztof Kieślowski or Dziga Vertov.A lot of them probably just feel like liking him makes them look smarter. "Oh yea I like smart things. I like Chris Nolan, Charles Dickens, and classical music" To Nolan btw.. not to be a dick but I get the feeling people only like him because of Dark Knight... which people only like because of Heath Ledger's Joker. That and Inception which was ok. It's just the case of people not knowing film so they hype up what they perceive is the most important director. Nobody has heard of Vilgot Sjöman or Krzysztof Kieślowski or Dziga Vertov.A lot of them feel like liking him makes them look smarter. Idk might be good. I'll probably see it eventually. Biopics always look boring af to me tho. I feel like people like them because there supposed to like them. You want to learn about Oppenheimer? Read a book about the guy. Check the Wikipedia. I just feel like the people hyping Oppenheimer are doing so because it feels more important. What's more important then the Nuke? Nothing. Important events = important movies. Then there's Barbie which I actually want to see. I saw Speed Racer in theaters and it was one of the most intense visual experiences we've had in cinema in years. Same to Moulin Rouge and same to Scott Pilgrim. I remember seeing all of them in theater's and they all went on to become cult classics. Barbie will probably join these. Barbie will be the new Speed Racer. Hated at release as a nightmare of bright colors but considered a masterpiece soon after. It'll probably be better remembered It's not that deep. I could probably get the same message from I Robot with Will Smith. "What makes these machines different from us? What makes a person human?" It just makes you think "these replicats are persecuted, why should any being be persecuted? We all have a right to life. What makes a person human? Is this cyberpunk hyper capitalist world what were heading towards?" It's a good message sure but I glimpsed all that in 5 minutes that felt like 50. And then people will bring up that Tears in the rain speech. Which is great but it doesn't make a boring garbage movie great by itself. It was the guy who visited Brad Renfro's character after Jack leaves. He pins him to a wall and threatens him. The rest of his scenes were cut tho. Well vampire guy is in the movie technically. He's the guy who went to vist and threaten Brad Renfro's character (Jack) I think they cut the rest of his scenes tho. I'm not sure if it's anyone specifically. I always thought it was just meant to represent the artificiality of there life's in LA. There all just pretty mannequins with nothing below the surface. Definitely my favorite BEE movie
