So once again Nolan fanboys escalated the rating...

...artificially. By voting this movie, a straight 10 even if they didn't like it so much; just because it's a Nolan film.

I remember the days, when these fanboys would literally rate a 10 on IMDB without even having seen the movie. Nolan will never have to worry about marketing. His army of simpleton fanboys and fangirls will keep ridging the ratings.

That is possible, but also ratings could be bought, so not sure which is the more dominant factor.

reply

so true, they're snobs

reply

they're snobs

I wouldn't say all of them are, but yeah, a lot of them are pretentious snobs.

There just desperate to prove themselves intellectuals aren't they? Or there so divorced from film that Nolan is the greatest they know.

I mean.. Kubrick, Pasolini, Truffaut, Vilgot Sjöman, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Dziga Vertov, Terrance Malick, Tarkovsky... Nolan is an OK film maker. He's better then most people today but he's far below anything great in the history of cinema.

reply

He makes blockbusters that don't particularly talk down to the audience. Producers tend to trust audiences less as budgets go up. So Nolan's track record of success is good for demonstrating that the audience isn't completely dumb.

But his films aren't 'intellectual'. Neither is he one of the great auteurs or innovators. He just makes non-stupid mass entertainment.

reply

I feel like he doesn't trust his audience, on an intellectual level at least. That's why he overexplains everything and shoves exposition down the viewers' throats whenever he gets a chance it seems like.

reply

Do you find that Nolan films over-explain themselves more than other mainstream / big budget / major studio American films? Because, I mean, they all do that, don't they? There's no escaping the 'Yes, I already got it, thanks' moments in $100m+ movies or the flashback to an earlier scene that doesn't need to be there unless you have the memory of a goldfish. I've always felt Nolan did all that somewhat less.

I do tend to come away from his films with the feeling that he doesn't treat the audience like they can't understand anything. But I may be wrong.

reply

I enjoy Nolan fiction, didn't enjoy this movie. It's a 4 to me.
I guess I am a fanboi snob.

reply

It got an A cinemascore. Even the general audience is loving it

reply

You're obsessed with fan boys. The movie is getting around 90% positive ratings wherever you care to look (RT, Meta, IMDB, etc.), so it's far from just "fan boys," you stupid git.

reply

A lot of IMDb's ratings today are that way. Same goes for DC Comics and Marvel Comics movies. The people who are followers of this or that then just slavishly post their 10's on IMDb regardless of whether the movie was any good.

reply

But Shawshank Redemption is still kicking Oppenheimer's butt. Thus, Darabont wins.
