Those are all 'fresh' on Rotten Tomatoes whereas Joker 2 is rotten. I can't think of many at all, films like Wonder Woman 1984 shouldn't count because they were released in the pandemic when most cinemas were shut. Terminator Genisys was not well received by critics (26% on Rotten Tomatoes) but it still managed to gross $440 million on a $155 million budget which still fell short of it's break even point when you factor in marketing. ‘Maybe the worst received movie, in relation to initial expectation, I have ever seen.’ It’s certainly up there, although I think it could be said that a lot of the hype died for it once people found out it was a musical. I think people are shocked at how boring it is though, it felt longer than the 4 hour Snyder Cut of Justice League. There are definitely worse comic book films but they probably still have some entertainment value. Joker 2 is just a very boring psychological drama film/musical and it’s a chore to sit through. Disagree, thought it had a terrible script that made for a very boring film. But then again I think Killers of the Flower Moon is a masterpiece whereas many find that boring. Todd Phillips ain’t no Martin Scorsese. Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors in Hollywood though, no doubt about that. Just got out of seeing it and it’s pretty much as bad as you’ve heard. The script is terrible, it’s as if Todd Phillips wrote one draft, turned it in and the studio just went full steam ahead with it. It’s derivative and lifeless as both a character study and a courtroom drama. Also it’s rather redundant as a musical, instead of writing good, original songs they just get Phoenix and Gaga to do a bunch of covers, it all feels very lazy. Phoenix is great though, at least he got a good payday out of this because he truly does deliver on his performance once again. The first Beetlejuice was fun as well as being a laugh out loud comedy. About 20 minutes into this sequel I saw it for the lazy, uninspired cash-grab that it was and wished I was watching the first film again instead. Just got back from the cinema after watching this and absolutely agree it's a 4/10 for the exact same reasons you mentioned. It was very much the same pitfall that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire fell into; too many plotlines, too many characters and just lacking in the heart and humour of a far superior previous film. The comedy is the biggest letdown though, I barely laughed throughout the film. I'd love to have walked out with a belly full of laughter and a huge grin on my face but it was a massive letdown and I'm surprised this has been mostly well received by critics, it really did just feel like an uninspired member berries cash-grab. It was pure garbage wasn't it? I'll make a wild prediction that Knull will be in that one scene that we saw in the trailer and there will be a post-credit scene where Eddie goes to New York and meets Spider-Man. Sony will then have a Spider-Man and Venom team up film where Knull is the villain. Hopefully this film flops though and this crappy Venom-verse can end once and for all. ^ Exactly this. When Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny had it's premiere at Cannes it had a divisive reaction from critics, some saying it was fitting end and others saying it was awful and worse than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Similar thing is happening with Joker 2, it's easily going to be the one of the most divisive films of the year along with Civil War but I do think when a lot of people find out Joker 2 is a musical it will have an impact on the box office. Only four films have made over $700 million globally this year and whilst I do reckon Joker 2 could become the fifth I don't think it'll get to $1 billion worldwide like the first film did. It’s nowhere near as entertaining as either of the films you’ve mentioned, I didn’t love either of those films but I’d watch either of them any day again over FNAF. FNAF is simply one of the worst films of 2023 and only made to cash in on the popularity of the video game. I’m baffled that anyone actually thinks it’s a good film. Compare this to Gremlins and it’s an absolute joke by comparison. Also just finished episode 6 and I’m done with this shit, so boring and slow and just feels completely removed from the first two films that it might as well be something else entirely. Honestly part of me thinks they should just leave well enough alone now but another part of me thinks that a live action series set in the future war with Skynet would be fantastic. Big budget, make it look like the future depicted in the Cameron films and just make a cool sci-fi war series. $200 million budget as well, no wonder they’re trying to keep the fact that it’s a musical from the trailers. Watched three episodes and it's not bad so far, although I don't like how the woman sent back to protect the family from the terminator is able to go toe to toe against the terminator. There's a bit at the end of episode 3 where the terminator and the woman are in a grapple and the terminator lands several punches onto her back. I thought terminators had superhuman strength? After taking several punches from the terminator she shoots it in the leg and is able to push it down an elevator shaft. Unless they explain later on that the woman is also a terminator it's a bit much that she's basically got this superhuman strength as well, really sucks all the tension out of it and undermines the terminator as an unstoppable threat. Agreed. It really is the greatest historical epic film ever made. It's laughable that Hollywood is doing a sequel to it 24 years later. Gladiator isn't Top Gun. It isn't some popcorn film that you can make a belated sequel to where you can tell a similar story to the original and have a good time with member berries. The fact that Gladiator 2 has Lucius Verus forced to fight as a gladiator is such a monumentally contrived idea. A typical title you’d have for a sequel after Dominion killed the franchise. New director, new writer, new cast. I’d love it if they could bring back the suspense of the first Jurassic Park and have interesting characters again like in that film. It does seem really unnecessary. I really liked Alien: Romulus. End the franchise on a high and call it a day, I don’t need to have a Weyland-Yutani backstory just like I didn’t need Ridley Scott to try and tell me where the Xenomorphs came from with Prometheus/Covenant. Agreed, it had potential but it didn't stick the landing and it was way too reliant on jump scares. You also have to have at least one character to root for to survive in horror films like this in my opinion otherwise that sense of dread the film was going for doesn't work as you don't care about the characters that are in danger. I found Longlegs and Alien: Romulus to be much better as we had a main character to root for to survive the nightmare they found themselves in. This is exactly how I felt as well. Really weak conclusion because you're just watching the villains get their comeuppance and there's nobody to root for to survive. I just saw this and I didn’t think it was decent. It’s got a great setting but it’s never utilised enough for scares and there just isn’t much horror to be found here. The film also makes the fatal mistake of being weird and wacky whilst also taking itself too seriously. Dan Stevens plays another bonkers character, if only the rest of the film was as fun as his performance. Also the final act is one of the worst I’ve seen in a film all year, it’s so painfully dull that I breathed a sigh of relief when the credits finally rolled.
